Just shy of my two year contract, I decided to cancel the contract. I live in a rural area and the neighbor's trees are interferring with reception. Plus finances are in the pits.

Called to cancel. Expected a early cancellation fee and I owed current month plus one late payment. I was given the approximate amount I would owe. I was led to believe a bill would be sent out. I knew I other bills more pressing than the DTV (such as utilities and phone).
I did not set up autopay...on purpose. Never had any problem in payments before this final fiasco. My debit card immediately (within 5 days) was charged. Since I was not expecting this deduction, I had paid my utilities. All together I incurred over $100 overdraft charges. I sent an email the nite I discovered the collection and called on Monday. Basically I was told "It's our policy to immediately within 6 days collect any money owed. We don't need to have your permission to collect because you gave us your number.!!!"
The reponse to the email was similar.

I further contacted my bank. They told me the same thing.
When I contracted with DTV, this was NOT part of the agreement. It did not come out til the leaflet in my Apr '09 bill.

I was never notified this immediate collection was being made.
Yes, I have filed with my state's attorney general.
Out in the boondocks, satellite is the only option. DISH TV couldn't get a signal.

The price is too high for HD + HD services + frequent adjustments needed would cost $19.95 + mileage or a blanket rate of $9.95 per month....just because my dish was not installed properly or stable enough by no less that three service personnel.

I would never recomment DirectTV to anyone. Reception is not reliable, and customer service at the end was definitely not service FOR the customer.

Beware of the vulture circling for the kill!

Written down is not fair

AUTHOR: Shane - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, December 02, 2010

What is it about businesses and banks that they think that if something is written down that it is ok? If someone goes into a bank and hands the teller a note explaining that the bank is about to be robbed, the court will not buy the fact that it was put in writing first. Just because they write it down first does not make their crime of theft any less.

Keep their word?

AUTHOR: Ashley - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 22, 2009

Teh only word that matters is whats written on the contract.

That's the only word the court system cares about.

People lie. Companies lie.

All we can go by is what is written.

Attorney General no help with DirectTV businss practices

AUTHOR: Bettyboop - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 22, 2009

So much for filing with the Attorney General.
"Direct TV declines to make an adjustment of your complaint because they advised me of collection."
Since I had no money in the bank the day I terminated, I would have been acutely aware of being told immediate collection was being made.
I know I owe the money, however, I expected a final bill.
No where in the "contract....their term for my requirements to them, not their requirements to me as a customer" does it state the final collection will be made immediately.
The attorney general's office just said their are not arbitrators and I would need to hire a lawyer to pursue this further.
So much for good business practices in Washington State!!!!
I have contacted several media outlets (TV stations) in the Seattle area to get the word out.
I would NEVER do business with these vultures again!
