I leased a vehicle from Drivetime on 02.06.15. Spent all day at the dealership and finally around 8pm I finished up. before completing the deal there were very important details I went over with my sales person. When I applied for financing I was working for a temp agency and getting paid weekly. I was scheduled to be hired permanently by the company on 02.16.2015. I informed the sales person I would go from being paid weekly to twice a month. I asked if she could set my payments up according to the permanent schedule and was advised she needed to set me up bi-weekly and once I was hired permanently I could call and change my due dates to correspond with my new pay schedule.
I was required to provide written proof from the company that they were offering me permanent employment and my pay schedule which I was happy to do. During the deal I asked multiple times if the due date would be able to be changed and was advised yes. When the deal was being finalized I was taken to a section in the office where the finalizing is recorded but mysteriously this day the equipment was broken. During the finalization I asked the individual the exact same question about my due date being changed and was advised to just call customer service once I went permanent and they could change it once throughout the duration of my contract. Deal finalized!
Once the payments started to become due I realized that eventually I was going to fall behind due to the way they had contracted me. I called with my concerns as well as posted to a website similar to this one my issue. I was contacted by customer relations. I spoke with three different people in customer care and was finally told to setup an appointment at the local dealership to go re-contract. I setup my appointment, go in one day after work and I sit there an hour before I'm helped. I was then taken into this young lady's office and she had the leasing manager on the phone to tell me I couldn't re-contract and if I want my due dates changed I could return the car, give them ANOTHER down payment and go from there. I left very unhappy and feeling betrayed.
A month later it started to rain really bad everyday and I discovered there was a leak inside the car. Called the warranty company and was advised of the authorized places to have it repaired. Took it and was told the sunroof was leaking and charged $75.00 to unclog it. The next day it rained again and more water in the car. Took it back and they said they kept the car under running water for 45 minutes and found nothing. However, each time it rains I can see where the water is dripping from. I stopped taking it. The check engine light also came on and was told it was the O2 sensor. My warranty claims to cover engine work but they found a loop hold for this one and said they weren't paying for this $200.00 bill.
Within the next two weeks the door handle on the driver side broke and you could only get out by opening door from the outside. All of this within the first 31 days and the warranty company was not willing to cover any of it. I notified customer service a the end of July. I was told I needed to call prior to each payment and setup an arrangement. I had been doing so each pay period like clock work but the reps were always extremely rude, telling me they were going to repo the vehicle, etc.
Anyway, I called end of July to provide reference number for payment I had made and to be extended out on the payment that had just come due (because of their deceit at contracting). The representative told me she would not extend me out until my next pay day, which was the 15th of August, and would only extend me out until the 6th of August. I posted a comment on their Facebook page and was advised by whoever runs it to message them with my issue. I did and was advised I would need to return my car and do a new down payment to have my due dates match up with my pay dates. I said that was unacceptable and she then responded she would discuss with the issue with her team and get back to me. I then contacted the page again because I hadn't heard from anyone and was told I would be contacted as soon as possible. On the 13th of August I called customer service to advise I would be making my payment that day when I got off from work. The representative advised me my vehicle was out for repossession and I would need to make my previous payment and the one that came due on the 13th (the day of my call) to cancel the repo. I advised the representative that I could only make the previous payment as I had been doing from the start of this contract. She stated I could make one payment, it would still be repossessed, I would them have to make my payment that came due on the 13th, a $300.00 repossession fee & $125.00 fee to redeem the vehicle!
I then messaged the person that runs the Facebook page again and advised her of what I had been told by the customer service rep. She responded and stated it had been forwarded and was being worked on. At 9pm I had still not heard from anyone and my car was repossessed.

Thank you to everyone that complained!

I want to thank all of you that complained about drivetime. Sometimes you may wonder if it does any good, it does! My husband and I had medical bills that caused a drop in our credit score. Our (paid off) vehicle was totaled over the last holiday, so we were put in a situation of needing to purchase another car. We scheduled an appointment (for today) at 1pm at our local Drivetime dealership. We ALWAYS read consumer reviews before we make any major purchases and decided to check 'Ripoff Report' for Drivetime. I found over 400 reports and my husband doing an online general search found over 1,400! Needless to say, we immediately cancelled the appointment, so we are one of the one's that got away and it's all because all of you took the time to post your experiences. I am very sorry however to hear about the terrible experiences you have had, but rest assured, your posting has made a BIG difference to someone, and I hope Drivetime realizes they are losing ALOT of money by not being straightup with people. Thanks Again!

Then what is the problem?

Okay so you went with their "Cancel Anytime" lease....so what is the problem here?
If they were this bad and were refusing to work with you, why didn't you just cancel the lease and give the car back?
It's not rocket science we are dealing with.
Either you are not so bright or lying about several details in this report. So which is it?

My Credit is NOT the issue!

I decided to try DriveTime because of their new lease program (return at any time with no penalties). They don't report to the credit bureaus and there's no penalty for returning or it being repossessed. With all of that and the warranty they were offering I figured it was the best way for me to go. I was actually told during the process that they DID report to the credit bureaus but when I purchased my home in May my vehicle was no where to be found on my credit report. This company is a sham and that's the bottom line!!!

A few things for you..

First of all the only thing your "proof" shows is that you sent texts to them and they said that they can't change your due dates. There is NO proof that they ever said they could change your dates in the first place. As for your repair bill, the fact you had a repair is not in question.
Other facts here are you are with a Sub-Prime lender. This means you have not proven you can handle credit and they are one of the few lenders who are willing to take a chance on you. Of course you can come here and write a 20 page essay on how your past credit issues were not your fault, but guess what. That does NOT matter, all that matters to the banks(any bank) is that you had past issues, and your actions here show you are continuing down that same path.
When you purchased the car the salesman in all honestly will tell you just about anything they can to sell you the car. However, I think you took their comments and stretched them into thinking what you want. Now, I am sure you are jumping up and down saying..."See they ripped me off, they lied..oh now I got them".
Perhaps, BUT and this is the big issue when your pay dates are has NOTHING to do with when you can make your payments. As if for example your payments are due every other week on a Friday, and you get paid twice a month. You need to do a few things. First of all on your pay date put money aside for your next payment. Yes this takes discipline on your part, but this is what millions of people do who don't have credit issues and take responsibility for their accounts. Now, because there will be two months a year you have an extra payment you then need to take an additional step of putting additional money aside each pay period to cover that extra payment. The fact is I can bet you failed to do that and because of YOUR lack of responsibility you find yourself in this situation.
Now, if you are going to try and come here and say your money is so tight that even a pay date change causes issues like this, then I am sorry to say you made a mistake in getting the car because you can NOT really afford it.
As for your repair. When you purchased(leased) the car you did it "As-Is". Meaning YOU are responsible for anything that goes wrong. As long as they are following the terms of the warranty they are doing nothing wrong.
By the way, unless you get your car back they will sell it at auction for a fraction of the cost, and YOU are still responsible for the balance. This means that they can come after you and eventually sue you if you fail to pay it off. Where you will have more bad news...the judge really won't care about your story all they are going to look at is what is in writing.

Only person to blame is DriveTime for their jacked up business practices. Sounds like you may be an employee but either way you can go dig a hole and have someone bury you alive in it.

Typical Blame Everybody Deadbeat!

Oh yes...it was THEIR fault YOU were late, right? That was the contract term YOU agreed to! Then you come here with this smokescreen tactic of how bad the car allegedly is when in reality this is NOTHING MORE than the typical deadbeat wail because YOU don't like the COLLECTIONS MACHINE which YOU turned on because YOU are repeatedly late.
