On March 20th, 2006, after hours of searching for a suitable private investigation service, I made the unfortunate choice to sign up for Net Detective, courtesy of Harris Digital Publishing. One of the Net Detective promotion websites
(https://www.affiliatesuccess.net/cgi-bin/payment.cgi?sid=bre&pid=ND&tid=&atid=&oid=&morder=&ppass=&rpass=&rtpass=&rid=&rh=&oc=&ov=&np=0&un=&GID=TkR8fGJyZXx8fDB8aHR0cDovL3d3dy5nb29nbGUuY29tL3NlYXJjaD9obD1lbiZxPW5ldCtkZXRlY3RpdmUmYnRuRz1Hb29nbGUrU2VhcmNot=&FindCount=&FindCount_Extra=&pp=&rp=&ptp=&rtp=&rotation=default&testpage=&clickthru=0&rotation_id=&capture_id=&email=&count=&uoid=)
clearly said that I would be charged $29.00 ONCE for three years of unlimited service.
As soon as I paid and logged-in onto the Net Detective website I was prompted to upgrade to Net Detective Plus for $9.95 and, foolishly, I did. I then accessed the Net Detective Plus website and did a search on a certain individual: it returned no results. I could not find myself with Net Detective Plus and the information that it did have about my relatives was inaccurate.
When I reviewed my March bill from Bank of America I saw that on March the 20th Harris Digital Publishing did indeed charged me a total of $38.95. However, on March the 24th there was also a mysterious charge for $29.95 I thought that I must have misunderstood something when I paid for the upgrade for Net Detective Plus and chose not to contact Harris Digital Publishing at that point.
Idiotically, I did not pay much attention to my bills for April and May but on June the 9th I finally decided to review my financial record. It turned out that Harris Digital had the audacity to charge me $29.95 again in April and May, obviously violating the initial terms of our virtual contract.
I did a Google search for ?Net Detective fraud? and came across a surfeit of fraud reports at www.ripoffreport.com . As I read the reports it became apparent to me that arguing with Harris Digital would be a waste of time but I did want to stop Harris Digital from ever charging me again. So, on that same day, June the 9th, I finally found HD customer service number ((386) 736-3881, press 1 to speak to a person) and cancelled my subscription without any explanation (the customer service representative did not even bother to ask me what went wrong). At that point I have lost $89.95.
On June the 13th, along with writing this Ripoff Report, I will also file a complaint with Bank of America in hopes of receiving at least some of my money back.
