In my lifetime I have stayed at 46 different properties and I may only be in my early 30s but have NEVER experienced a hotel quite like this one in this small, but dangerous town of King City, CA. As of 2013 it shows the town’s population is 13,248 (more than half the size of my hometown that I was born and raised in) but there are 28 unsolved murders since 1999 including this year! You would be staying in the murder capitol of California in this filthy, terrible Quality Inn that I unfortunately had to stay in one night. I only found out this information after I got online. This is of course, NOT a 5 star resort but it doesn’t even match the many Choice hotels I have stayed at in other parts of the country. It’s quality alright but terrible quality.

I was on a road trip vacation with my dad in the state and had every hotel booked in advance looked carefully upon except King City because of the questionable hotel reviews in the area. I found out that there were only 2 rooms left in this town when checking in late that night. Unfortunately there was only one room here in the Quality Inn, which was a smoking room and one at the Motel 6 (which I knew had worse reviews prior) so I took this hotel while my dad took the latter.

Basically, to sum this up as a one sentence to summarize what went wrong was this: there was dried blood on the sheets (gross!), dirty smoke burnt marked towels, changed mind on late checkout, and very rude staff with the smallest breakfast area I’ve ever been in! I was too tired to try and and argue with the man who didn’t speak good English to ask for new sheets/towels so just went to bed.

When I checked in, I presented my Triple A card and asked for a noon checkout which the man said yes to. However, the next morning I received a phone call at around 10:15 am rushing me out saying somebody wanted the room and that I had to pack my things ASAP. It was further followed by a knock on the door 15 minutes later from an old white man asking me to leave/hurry up. So they lied to me about the late checkout time! I once stayed at a hotel in Adams, WI where I asked a late shift worker for a noon checkout and he rudely said no, so the next morning I called the manager and she extended it herself (which tells you that guy lied and was too tired/rude to do the position properly).

At the breakfast area there was only two tables which were both full so I had to sit on a bench to eat. The man who was at the front desk in the same lobby wasn’t doing anything but staring straight ahead at everyone with no smile on his face (not managing the area or showing people how to prepare the food) so I just had plain bread and bacon leaving hungry going to Denny’s with my dad. It was quite something, usually people are talking and having a good time but nobody talked - it was very eerie.

Also apparently this is a hotel that requires people to stay at the checkout desk while the front desk person gets a room check. None of the other properties I stayed in did this so I found this quite inconvenient. I was running late to another appointment on my vacation so I just told her I had to go.

When I tried to resolve these issues when I got home, they were very rude to me on the phone and actually hung up on me even though I was being polite. Never had I had a hotel as unprofessional as to where the staff actually did this. I don’t think anybody should stay here and that the hotel inspector needs to condemn this place, honestly.

I think the responder here doesn't have a clue as to what actually happened and is narrow minded/sarcastic as well. I don't think I am allowed to post a link but if you do a Google search on "King City murders" there's an article on the Monterey Herald's newspaper site called "King City has state's top top murder rate." So it is indeed the murder capital of Cali. The other big cities I spent a lot of time picking the right hotel that didn't land in a dangerous part. I already stated what I did about the bed sheets: it says, "I was too tired to try and and argue with the man who didn’t speak good English to ask for new sheets/towels so just went to bed." You have this wrong also, when I stated a late checkout I meant ONE HOUR after their normal 11 am which was supposed to be noon but they themselves decided to change their mind, NOT me. Maybe I shouldn't have "appointment" but it was a thing on my itinerary that I wanted to get to San Francisco before their rush hour to where I was staying. I wanted to get to that city and noticed that traffic in this state was taking a lot of time so that's why I felt I was running late. The experience in Wisconsin is similar that there are rude, unhelpful staff even in averaged hotels who changes their minds about checkout or simply don't want to be accommodating.

What a Drama Queen

AUTHOR: Robert - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, October 27, 2015

Just from your report it is obvious to tell what a Drama Queen/King you are.  Most of your report is "fluff" and has nothing to do with the hotel.  It is also interesting how your dad was willing to stay at a different hotel with worse reviews than to stay in the same room with you.

As for this fluff, well just to name a couple.   So you have stayed in 46 different properties in your 30 or so years of life.  Why haven't you called Guiness?   Murder Capital of California?  Seriously?  Perhaps you should go check out Stockton or Oakland and see if you still think that.

We get to what sounds like the one valid complaint...the bed sheets.  Yet, you don't say what you did.  Did you call the front desk to have them changed?  Or did you just deal with it hoping for a discount the next morning?  No, you don't tell us that you go on and on about how bad the town is.

Now, you could have had a second valid complaint with the Check-Out but you have so much fluff and things that just don't add up it makes it rather impossible.  For one you say that even though you asked for a "Late Check-Out" of noon, you changed your mind.  Which means you planned to check-out by 11AM.  Now, at "around" 10:15 someone called and said you needed to leave.  Then by your timing at about 10:30AM they came to your door personally and asked you to leave.  So we now must figure that you went to the check-out desk at 10:30AM, when you had no intention of leaving until about 30 minutes later.  Yet while at the Check-Out desk you are all of the sudden "running late" for an appointment.  I'm actually trying to figure what appointment you were trying to get to on your vacation in a city that is basically in the middle of no where.   Not to mention that even though you were running late you still had time to stop at Denny's to eat breakfast.

By the way what does your experience in Wisconson have to do with your stay in California?
