I am a single mom, and on disabilty benifits barely making the bills each month.

I enrolled at University Of Phoenix in August 2007 in hopes of furthering my education in the medical field, and in hopes of obtaining a degree that would help me achieve my goal of getting off disability and getting a job that I could do.

Because of medical reasons I can no longer perform the job duties required as a certified nursing assisantce.I just can't walk anymore. And the university of phoenix knew this. They assured me this online cource was my answer to my problems, convienant times, flexiable cources schedules, etc.

Well here i am the second 9 weeks and totaly in debt because i could'nt pass the classes because of pc problems(my pc was to old, and not enough memory ???) (ECT)

I have invested over$800.00 in stuff to make this work. And now my 'COUNSLER won't even answer the phone."(IMAGINE THAT?)

UOP IS NOT A REAL SCOOL

AUTHOR: Margaret - (U.S.A.)

All brick & morter colleges and community colleges offer on line classes now at reasonable state tuition rates. If everyone would just stop this Bull$#*& of attending these rip off places of higher education, you would not be getting yourselves in a financial bind, or having these rip off companies trying to ruin your credit. Then UOP, AXIA, STRAYER, CAPELLA, and who ever else Jon Doe for profit schools will close up shop and be gone for good!

These on line schools are a 100% rip off. I have taken a few on line classes through one of my local community college's and I am satisfied to know that its 100% accredited and transferable to any 4 year university, no questions asked.

Please everyone, stop giving yourself a heartache

questions for you?

How did you do on the assignments you turned in?

How are you online now? I'm glad to see you worked out the whole "my computer is too old" thing.

Why should you be able to use hours of time and resources and a time slot given to you in a certain class and not have to pay for it? Because your a single mom and disabled??? hmm?

University of Phoenix gave you a chance where other institutions may not have. In turn you, gave up on yourself and are playing the blame game. I question your original motivation to start online courses where did you lose that? The fact is a college degree is hard and takes lots of sacrifice and dedication. I obtained mine at a traditional University and had to work just as hard to meet their requirements. I made many sacrifices if I was you I would have gotten my butt passing that class. If you received a Pell Grant which I'm assuming you did... you had the resources to actually buy a new computer... that money is for educational expenses. You had ample time to turn in your assignments. Not give up on yourself and do whatever it took to get your degree.
I am a mom that works for the University that obtained her degree later in life. It's ok if your trying to fool the general public.. there are too many UOP graduates that will refute your quest. But it is not ok to fool yourself. Did you really think any University was just going to give you a degree based on your disability? I think you should revisit your motivation and not give up on yourself... do what it takes to get your degree. That is going to entail sacrifices and motivation. Did you do everything you could possibly do ..to succeed in your education?

If you are disabled...Can you travel to a ground campus? Do you have family? Can you go to a ground campus? NO. Now, you should have made a backup plan for your PC. Being online, there are always tech problems that YOU should think ahead before you sign governmental contracts and tie into loans. Do not blame anyone else but yourself. I think its great you're trying to better yourself, but don't blame a company for your failures.

Fully AGREE!

First of all, how is going to school going to get you off disability? Because the school advisor knew you were on disability doesn't mean they should know your computer would break. All online classes put in the syllabus that each student should have a backup in case of computer issues (i.e. Library). BTW $800 will buy a new desktop at almost any electronics store in the country.

Stop being a victim

Don't blame a school for your technical inadaquacies.

Ask yourself this question, "If I took a job and didn't have transportation to work, who's fault would that be?" Would you blame your employer for hiring you once you figured out that you couldn't do the job? Probably.

I have seen many UOP learning centers with COMPUTERS for students to use, go figure. Did you know they are open from 8 am-10 pm? I would guess you are upset because you have let your dream for education disolve away, but you need to own that, don't blame UOP.
