Yp.com Verification Request used to set up billing and open unrequested account Las Vegas Nevada

I received a call from yp.com asking to verify my business information for their online yellow page listing. I was assured that this was strictly for verification and asked to verify my information via recording. I inquired several times about this being a free service and only for verification but those parts of the conversation were not included on the recorded verification.

Since I have had similar calls from legitimate sites like D&B I thought this was what it was presented to be, simply information verification.

When I received a bill for $39.95 for the Internet Advertising Package I had "verified" I called the company to have the account closed and the bill removed.

The recording of my voice providing the information was offered as proof that I had signed up for and authorized the order and the billing and I was told that I could not close the account or remove the billing since they had the recording of my authorization. I told the company representative that I would not pay the bill and to remove my listing and close my account.

I don't expect this to go away that easily but I will continue to refuse to pay and wanted to add my experience to the others where people have been drawn into this scam in spite of their attempts to avoid it. I also belive this company is using the legitimate yellowbook.com advertising to trick consumers into believing they are signing up for that service.
