Compass had no way of accepting the payoff for my installment loan and instructed me to drive to their nearest branch, which is about fifteen minutes away.  I brought a check with me to pay off their high interest loan.

The lobby was closed, due to COVID 19, so I had to go through the drive through.  The Teller's name was Riley, and he looked afraid and said that he would not accept the physical check after I sneezed and told him I had a cold.

Instead, Riley said I could pay with the app.  I asked him if the payoff amount was about the limit for the app because I had just been instructed to drive all the way to their branch to pay in person.  He assured me I'd be able to use the app and helped me get it set up in the drive through.  I asked him specifically to confirm that the amount would not be a problem using the app.  I felt like he just wanted to brush me off.

I get all the way home again and try to deposit the check into my account to use to pay off the balance.  The check amount ($8,800) was over the app deposit limit.  I wrote a new check for the max amount and deposited that to use to pay.

I called Compass again (two hours on hold again) to see what else I could do to pay them in full.  They said they would stop the interest on that day and they did accept "the balance" over the phone.  They have a daily limit for payments over the phone, so the representative broke up the installments to the max per day up to the payoff amount.

Meanwhile, the app transaction didn't post and was rejected because you can only do so many online payments in one month (only one), and I had exceeded the limit of one.

I called back in, spent another hour on the phone, and they took "the balance" again over the phone, but they collected about $400 more than my payoff amount and said the money would be returned once prorated and adjusted back to the date that interest was to stop, which was March 25, 2020, the same day I drove to the branch to pay the balance.

They sent a check for ninety dollars and now there are no notes saying the interest was to stop on March 25, 2020, and they have charged interest for almost a full month.

I have a solid eight hours into this already.  I work long hours as a single parent.

What else can I do?  They refused to allow me to pay them on March 25th and gave me the run around.  We are going on month four of this.

I feel like they are basically stealing $300 from me.  Not to mentional all of the time.
