I scratched another persons car and was quoted a $800 repair bill.  Since it was below $1,000 I said use my insurance company mercury insurance because it's under $1,000 it won't go on my record.

Then the mercury adjuster came and jacked up the price to nearly $3,600 for a tiny scratch in order to increase my premium for the next 5 years!  This stabbing me in the back!

Mercury Insurance PROVEN LAZYNESS & INCOMOETENCE

AUTHOR: jon - (United States)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 04, 2020

I have proven in this thread/post that Mercury Insurance LIES, you also are the TRUE IDIOTS , and your responses show complete UN-PROFESSIONALISM! First of all your LAZINESS in running a car fax on her car and seeing she was in a previous accident is deplorable!

Second your failure to even ask for a photo of the damage to my car made your adjuster completely blind when it came to the damage caused to her car from the previous accident that you idiots fixed pinning the costs onto my record thus raising my rate for the next 5 years. I will see you in small claims court to collect the 5 years of my increase due to your negligence to do your job!

I have complained on many other forums other than rip-off report and have posted on Facebook to my over 1,000 followers with the encouragement to repost! I have backed up all my claims on here with photo evidence of your complete idiocy, laziness & negligence to do your job!

You fixed damage from a previous accident and pinned it on me! PROVING MERCURY INSURANCE IS TRULY THE IDIOTS HERE and I have PROVEN that with photo evidence and through your completely moronic and totally Un-professional responses. AVOID MERCURY INSURANCE LIKE THE PLAGUE OR THEY WILL FIX DAMAGE FROM PREVIOUS ACCIDENTS AND PIN IT ON YOU!

DON’T MAKE THE MISTAKE I MADE AND SIGN UP WITH THEM, read this entire thread and see for yourself the complete Un-professionalism of Mercury Insurance and study the photo evidence for yourself & simply go with another more professional & reputable company, YOU’VE BEEN WARNED!!

The only idiot response was yours

I will be following up with a small claims lawsuit judgement decision also but unfortunately this takes a few months
- If you truly think you can take the Insurance company to Small Claims court because the adjuster came up with a higher estimate, you are truly the idiot here.

As stated before, NO Insurance company will pad or increase an estimate to just get you to pay more in premiums. If you truly believe that then you have let all logic fly out the window and it would be useless to give an explanation as to why because you wouldn't understand.

If Mercury TRULY wanted to settle for the lowest price they would have chosen this repair. They DID NOT, thus proving that statement that they try to settle for the lowest cost is a total lie.
- That is not what was stated. The Insurance Company must act in "Good Faith" to make the party whole. They will settle for the minimum that they can.   This does not mean that it will always be the cheapest estimate. They can't take some random estimate(regardless of who provided it) and take that as the settlement. The "Estimate" you provided wasn't a binding estimate, it made it quite clear that once they start the repair they could find additional damage.

The party you hit got lucky. First, because there was apparently no injuries. Second, because you told her to go through your Insurance company where they did a proper job in estimating her damage.

You probably fixed her car from the previous accident due to MERCURY INSURANCE BEING COMPLETE AND PROVEN IDIOTS! YOu did NOT do the research into her previous accident DID YOU?

- Irrelevant. Why didn't the party you hit bring this up?

YOU WILL NOT COLLECT FROM ME, I will be switching company’s and finding a company that isn’t full of IDIOTS like Mercury Insurance!
- But per California Law that accident is now on your record, so don't expect much relief from an increased premium with any company.  So let's be honest that is what you are TRULY worried about.  Which again is due to you failing to just handle this outside your insurance.

AVOID MERCURY INSURANCE LIKE THE PLAGUE OR YOU WILL BE SCAMMED ALSO! I had my bumper completely ripped off in a previous accident and the total repair was $1,700. This is a small scratch they claim took $3,600 to repair.
- Do you know what this says? Your driving skills have something to be desired. But you are trying to compare apples to oranges. Cost depends on SEVERAL factors including but not limited to the actual vehicle involved.

More IDIOT fraud talk from MERCURY INSURANCE

AUTHOR: jon - (United States)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 03, 2020

First off this is the quote that the person I hit SENT ME! You purposely raised the rate to $3,600 in order to raise my monthly rate! There was no underneath damage caused by me! MERCURY CLAIMS ADJUSTER IS THE IDIOT! I’m showing a photo of the small scratch on my cr that supposably caused $3,600 in damage.

Why did Mercury never ask for a photo? The girl was in a previous accident! Did you tease arch and know that? You probably fixed her car from the previous accident due to MERCURY INSURANCE BEING COMPLETE AND PROVEN IDIOTS! YOu did NOT do the research into her previous accident DID YOU?

AVOID CORRUPT MERCURY INSURANCE LIKE THE PLAUGE! They are the true idiots! But you’re right about one thing, YOU WILL NOT COLLECT FROM ME, I will be switching company’s and finding a company that isn’t full of IDIOTS like Mercury Insurance!

#3 Consumer Suggestion

You are an idiot

AUTHOR: Flint - (Afghanistan)

POSTED: Monday, March 02, 2020

Do you really think an insurance company would willingly overpay by a factor of 4x on a claim?  Insurance companies always want to pay as little as possible.  And they aren't even going to collect the money from you, since you will most likely leave and go to some other company after this experience.

What most likely happened is that there is hidden frame damage that isn't obvious from your picture.  Plastic bumpers are very flexible, and even a pretty severe impact often only leaves scratches, even when there is significant damage underneath.

Also, plastic parts like this are usually impossible to repair, and need to be replaced.  They are quite expensive, depending on the car.  And your original estimate seems waaay off.  I haven't seen a shop charging $36/hour in a very long time.  $75-100 is more normal for your area.

Typical Insurance fraud rebuttal 101

I have written proof of the $800 quote for the repair. If Mercury TRULY wanted to settle for the lowest price they would have chosen this repair. They DID NOT, thus proving that statement that they try to settle for the lowest cost is a total lie. I also have a written text from the girl who’s car I scratched that says the Mercury claims adjuster showed up and started telling her all these other costs that were necessary when they were not!

They are right about one thing, using Mercury Insurance was a HORRIBLE IDEA! Anybody who chooses Mercury Insurance is going to get scammed just like I was. I will be following up with a small claims lawsuit judgement decision also but unfortunately this takes a few months. Just read all the complaints on here about Mercury Insurance and you’ll see they are liars & Corporate fraudsters!

AVOID MERCURY INSURANCE LIKE THE PLAGUE OR YOU WILL BE SCAMMED ALSO! I had my bumper completely ripped off in a previous accident and the total repair was $1,700. This is a small scratch they claim took $3,600 to repair. Total BS!!

There have been some strange conspiracy theories out there, but yours is in the top 10.

Then the mercury adjuster came and jacked up the price to nearly $3,600 for a tiny scratch in order to increase my premium for the next 5 years!

Insurance companies don't think that way. The adjuster look for what is the minimum amount they can settle a claim for. They aren't looking to pad the numbers to try and justify a rate increase.

Not sure where you came up with this $1000 amount. Perhaps you are thinking of the requirement in California to notify the DMV if you have property damage over $1000. There  is no guarantee that if it is reported and they increase your rates you would stay with them at renewal time, let alone for the next 5 years. So there is zero incentive for the adjuster to "pad" the numbers. They also don't have some personal vendetta against you to just cause your rates to increase regardless of the company.

You took a gamble, but in the end you honestly likely made a mistake by getting your insurance company involved. For $800 you should have just settled it with the other party outside of the insurance, getting them to provide a written agreement that the $800 settles their claim with you. Now, that the other party has  a higher estimate which probably provides for other needed repairs that the lower estimate missed it is unlikely that you can get them to agree with only the $800 now.
