Academy Collection Services ripoff illegal collection of debt Philadelphia Pennsylvania

Academy Collections have broken every rule of the FDCPA. They accused myself and my husband of having a bad debt with a bank we have never used. We have contacted the bank they claim the debt is with and even they denie that we owe them money. They tried to tell me that my husband had sent them a $500 check that was returned for NSF. The problem being that the account they claimed he had used had not been used in 7 years. When we contacted our bank they were claiming to have recieved the check on they told us that no such check had been debited. The following day we received a call from the bank telling us that an electronic debit had just been applied to this account. There was only $10 in the account.

What had obviously happened is the women at Academy called us and when we denied the debt and told her she had the wrong person she thought she could force through an electronic debit on our account. By the way she admitted on the phone another person with the same name at another address in our area could be responsible for the debt.

We can not get Academy to send us anything in writing, as required by FDCPA, so that we can rebuke the debt. After reading all the other complaints on this company I can now see that they have no intention of sending us anything. My next step is to send them a cease contact letter.

I forgot to mention that they are rude and abusive on the phone. She even left a message on my machine for my children to hear saying what a dead beat their father was for sending a bad check (which he didn't) she even used foul language.

If they call you hang up and don't acknowledge their existence.
