I purchased my 2006 Infiniti G35X in February 2012 and I purchased an extended warranty on August 1, 2012. I was told during an oil change in November that my car was 2 quarts low on oil in between oil changes so I took my car to Infiniti.
Infiniti started an oil consumption test on my car which I'm told takes a 3 or 4 months in order to dertermine the problem. I contacted American Auto Shield on 3/19/2013 to let them know that my car was at Infiniti, they asked me to have Infiniti contact them to get authorization which I did. Infiniti began the teardown of my vehicle which was going to cost me $2500.00 out of my pocket if the repairs were not approved.
The contract says that it covers the piston rings which according to the technician at Infiniti, that is what caused the failure in my car. After three weeks of waiting I contacted AAS and spoke to the following people, Matt, Cody, Brain, Ersamo and Matt again. Matt who claims to be a supervisor with 16 years as a Mechanic said that my claim was being denied because there was an oil build up in my motor or sludge as he put it which is consistent with a lack of maintenance. Well there again is another lie because I have all of my maintenance receipts for my vehicle and I have never missed an oil change. He told me specifically that the Service Consultant at Infiniti told him that the failure was due to the oil build up which was a bold faced lie.
I called Infiniti back and she said that is not what she told him, she put in her report that the piston ring was bad and that is what caused the failure, but that there was some oil build up as well. He said there was a clause in my contract that said if there is oil build up that my claim would be automatically denied.
The piston ring being bad and oil build up are two different things and according to the contract the piston ring was covered. As I read further I realized that this contact is not worth the paper that it is written on because further down in the long list of exclusions there is a statement that says piston rings are not covered if they are stuck or worn which in essence are the only things that can possibly go wrong with the piston rings.
What this all boils down to is that AAS has put loopholes in the form of exclusions throughout the entire contract. Anything that is supposedly covered has a loophole in the exclusions sections that actually voids the contract and your vehicle will not be repaired.
I have paid $650.00 out of my pocket for a rental car that was never covered, $2500.00 for the teardown of my vehichle and I still have to pay to have my car repaired. When I asked Matt for proof of his certification as a Mechanic he told me he doesn't have to show me proof of anything, its his decision and the repairs on my car will not be covered.
