There is a severe defect in roughly 2/3rd of Apple Macbook's with Retina Displays in which an image on screen for more than 60 seconds will "burn-in" to make subsequent images hard to see clearly. This is ironic as the Retina Display was designed for additional clarity.
The issue stems from the fact that Apple used two LCD manufacturers when shipping out the product: LG and Samsung. Approximately, 2/3rd of the screens are from LG and 1/3rd from Samsung. The screens that came from LG all have this issue and the problem gets worse with time. In many cases, the issue does not present itself until after the 1 year limited warranty has expired.
Here are some sites that describe the issue in more detail:

Apple has offered to correct the problem for me for $310 + tax. Apple has yet to recall the defective hardware.

Did they make you pay to have the repair done? They forced me to pay for it. It fixed the ghosting issue and then my screen began flickering just outside of the 90 day warranty period.

Apple tried to refuse replacing the display even while it was still under warranty claiming this horrific "ghosting" effect is "normal" and "within spec".
