I resently recieved a letter from a collections acgency stating that they had bought my account from the Bank of Marin. They state that I owe 695.15. The problem is that it was a secured card. I could not ever extend beyond what I deposited beyond the 200 dollars. So this company, took my two hundred dollars, and sold my account, and now they want 695.15. For what?? I owe them nothing, can anyone help? Thanks Shannon

Assuming that the collection company is legitimate...

Then the rest of the money is probably in late fees, interest, possible termination fees. I don't know what the terms and conditions are for your particular card, but it will be among the paperwork they sent you when you received your card.

You could probably settle with the collection company for less. Be aware that discussing the debt with them is an acknowledgement and this will appear on your credit report until 2015 if you don't pay it off.

Just be sure that the collection company is legitimate.
