Houston Better Business Bureau BBB Deceptive Advertising

I was contacted to "join" telemarket repeatedly is what they do and paid $600 a year (its a small website) and promised money back if not satisfied.

The Houston BBB is a good company. They have rules and guidelines they have to follow just like every other company out there. Give them a break.

From my experience with them, their complaint staff includes approx. 4 people and I've been told they process around 3,000 complaints per month.

The function of the BBB is not a consumer advocate function, at all. They provide (free of charge) a complaint resolution process. they are not a consumer advocacy organization, they are a member-funded organization.

The reason that BBB members exist is to ensure that you will recieve a response to your complaint, if you have one. that doesn't mean they tell you to use a member company over a non-member company... it simply means that you will resieve a response to the issue and the company will try to resolve complaints if you use the member company.

Their company reports are just to show consumers how many people had an issue with the company, and how the company chose to handle the issue.


If you file on the BBB, they will close it out as invalid, but they do make sure your issue is resolved. I had a similar situation and they contacted me immediately to make sure it was resolved, and then that person's supervisor contacted me as a follow up. They've earned my respect in that regard.

If they take a company report down, they are doing something with it. You may call in for information on the report at that time and they will let you know what they can. They have guidelines they have to follow set up by council, so some information will not be able to be realeased.

And in regards to the website comment. As will all of the BBB's in the Nation, the Houston BBB's website is owned and operated by the council of BBB's. If coucil has a technical problem, all of the Bureau's have that issue.

It's all pretty simple if you know the function of the BBB.

Call them up and explain your concerns to them, I'm sure they will be happy to give you all of the information you request and resolve your issues with their company.

We, as consumers, have to understand that they are a business much like all of us work for. They have bosses, and those people have set policies and guidelines. I think at times, we have a misconception about who they are and what they do and it's best to educate ourselves before we file false reports for all of the world to see.

The Houston Better Business Bureau removes unresolved complaints from its website and unresolved complaint company listings entirely. I have pages of current written documentation from the BBB against Memorial Hermann Hospital System; the unresolved complaint no longer appears on the website, nor is there any business listing at all. Can someone please explain how one of the largest hospital systems in the USA does not exist with the BBB? I emailed and called complaining to the BBB, but they did not reply. The BBB is nothing but a fraud itself, not on the side of the "unpaying" consumer, but only on the side of "paying" big business. It is USELESS.

Follow up: I filed a formal complaint with the BBB against the BBB in this regard; they sent an email "dismissing my complaint as invalid" by showing me a newly-created listing of the business and its lengthy complaint and law-breaking record -- that again does NOT appear on their website using any and all possible search parameters. The BBB complaint and reporting system is nothing more than a marketing tool to get businesses to pay to join -- and obviously businesses also pay to have their complaints and listings removed, along with having consumers lied to about unreported records. The BBB is a TOTAL FRAUD and only on the side of paying businesses, not consumers for whom it is supposedly intended.

I have tried many times to file a complaint with the BBB @ it's Houston, Texas website.

When I try, all I get is "this page cannot be displayed" or "time has run out on this request, therefore the request has been dropped"!!!

Guess I'll have to go to the old fashioned telephone, and find out how to "file a complaint" They make it soooo difficult to do, that you just give up, and that is one complaint less against a company!!!!
