I purchased a camera at Best Buy for $350.00. With the reward zone program you a rewarded 100 points for every dollar spent. After 12,500 points a five dollar store certificate is issued.

The sale for the week included 100,000 bonus points with the purchase of the camera I bought. ($40 in reward zone certificates) Great deal! The next week Staples offered the same model camera for $250.00. Best Buy matches prices for up to 30 days. I got a rain check from Staples (One hour from where I live). I then called Best Buy where I purchased the camera and explained the situation. They told me to come in.

Upon arriving I handed the rain check to the associate I spoke with. He acted like I had not talk to him 45 mins prior. He calls the manager over who then calls Staples. He then explains that Best Buy will only price match for items a store has in stock. After a few minutes of pleading he still says no, but offers me 10% off for my trouble. Better than nothing! I ask the associate to make sure i will still receive all my points, "yea" he says with an attitude.

Fast foward a month. Still no 100,000 bonus points. So I email Best Buy reward zone and explain the situation. They email back saying I do not quailify for the bonus points because I returned and repurchase the camera outside the offer week. I explain it was a price adjustment and I was assured i would receive my points. Sorry there is nothing futher we can do, I'm told.

Now I'm out $40 bucks, and a multi-million dollar company is that much richer. In there emails they state "the importance of good customer service and how furstrating poor customer service can be." Pratice what you preach!

Outside 30 miles?Another policy besides "the other store needs to have it in stock"

Another policy besides "the other store needs to have it in stock" is that the store has to be within 30 miles. If you are talking about the staples in salisbury, maryland then you are outside that range and there's nothing Best Buy would do for ya anywayz!

You didn't have to return and repurchase the camera

First, a little about the policies:

Best buy doesn't not price match UNLESS the item is in stock at the competitor's store. I don't know why they made such guideline, but they did.

From my understanding, it seems that you returned the camera and repurchased it with the price match. If this was the case, you didn't have to return it. Simply come in to a Best Buy with your receipt and explain to the associate that you are making a price match. Show them the ad (if you have it) or have them call the competitor. If the item is in stock, they should refund you the difference plus an additional 10%. In this case, your rewards points would be valid since no return was involved. But since you returned the camera and repurchased it outside of the promotion period, you didn't receive the rewards points.

If the associate told you that you would still receive the points, he/she was wrong.
