CBCS Collections CBCS CBCS is a SCAM! They claim a non-existent debt to Verizon Columbus Ohio

We have been receiving harassing phone calls from a woman with an Indian accent who identifies herself as a CBCS agent. We have also received notices in the mail. CBCS claims that my husband owes $169.29 to "VERIZON SOUTH WEST RES". We currently use Verizon here in NJ, but this is the first time he has ever had a Verizon account, and our current account (opened in June 2007) has been, and is, in good standing.

Today we received another letter from CBCS trying to collect this debt. My husband called the number to find out more information about the debt, and talked to the same Indian woman. He asked what year the debt was from, and she told him that she cannot give him any information about the debt unless he provides his social security number. He refused and she began to yell at him that he owes money and then she hung up on him.

After this, I did a bit of research on CBCS and came across this site. It definitely seems like a scam to me, based on our experience and the numerous reports on this site. I would not pay them any money or provide them with any information whatsoever. If someone decides to legally pursue this, please contact me.

For further verification that my husband or myself do not owe this debt to Verizon, I checked both of our credit reports today. The debt to Verizon was non-existent on both of these. Furthermore, CBCS was not listed as a company attempting to collect a debt on either of our reports.

Get yours and verify that the debt CBCS claims you owe does not exist and they are not registered as a collection agency trying to collect a debt from you on your credit report.
