I'm closing my account with Citibank after numerous problems over the past year, including the following.

For the first 6 months after the account opened, they held each payroll deposit for 4-5 days before giving me access to it.They back-date transactions, so they can charge overdraft fees. Example - I paid my electric bill 12 hours after I received my direct deposit. They changed the transaction date on my statement to a day earlier and charged me $60 in over draft fees on that one occasion. Over the last year, this has happend 8 times!!

I applied for overdraft protection and was told it was approved 4 different times. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th was when I called back to ask why I don't have overdraft protection and they couldn't find a record of my application or approval. After the 4th attempt, I gave up.

It's time to find a bank that's more competent and ethical with my money.

I have also experienced this. I bought my husband's wedding band around the first week of May. We married in June. I check my statement online almost everyday. The cost of the ring was deducted AFTER we were married which caused an overdraft situation. I called and was told that although on the day of the purchase the money was taken out and the balance reflected at the time was the post-purchase balance, it was just a "pre-authorization" and that the money didn't really come out until AFTER I was already married. I find this hard to believe since I bought it from a small independent jewelry shop that is struggling to stay alive. They'd have no reason to hold a transaction for over a month.

We've decided that after the first of the year we will switch to Bank of America. I am also in Dallas and Citibank doesn't have enough branches to fit my lifestyle. I am tired of driving to "the hood", where most of them probably don't even have bank accounts, just to do my banking.
