I openned a business account at this bank last month (I had a personal account there for the past 3 years). I waited 2 weeks to get my card, but instead got a rejection letter saying they couldn't verify credit references. I phoned the number and the only thing I was told was to fax a copy of my ssn which I did. Another week goes by and I get another rejection letter for the same reason. I phone the number again and am told the reason why I am being rejected is because I am not a US citizen. I am livid. I have excellent credit history (2 personal credit cards which are always paid in full and on time, a car loan, etc) so it is not like I don't have any credit. The only reason why I was rejected was because of my immigration status. This is absurb, and I don't even think it is legal.

That is messed up! I would teach them a lesson by going back to my country and never comming back.

I'm not 100% sure of the legality, but I believe its legal. They are a private business and can issue a card to whomever they see fit. If they think an immigrant is a credit risk, then that is their prerogative. Build more of a credit history in this country and try again?
