I bought a LivingSocial deal to Cohen's for $30 which allegedly gave me a free eye exam and $250 worth of eyeglasses and lens.  Good deal right? Well, as soon as I arrive, I get ushered into an eye exam.  Common industry practice is to choose your frames first and then get measured for them.  After all, you don't go to a shoe store and get your foot sized first before you browse the selection, right? Ok, whatever.

When that's done, I go to the counter and get hit with the cost of the glasses.  For High index lens $400, Anti-reflective coating? $200.  Frames? You have to buy frames that cost at least $200 more (not mentionedi n the LivingSocial offer as a condition).  It all came out to $850 before subtracting the $250.  The same exact pair of glasses and lens would have cost me at most $350 at any other optical store.  This is a deal??? So I tell them I will walk away.

Fine, they say.  Pay us for the eye exam.  I give them the LivingSocial voucher - and he says "sorry, it's only good if you buy a pair of glasses with us." Again, not on the voucher.  A Livingsocial voucher is not a coupon.  It is a pre-paid voucher for goods/services.  So I should have gotten an eye exam and $250 towards glasses.  Fine, I'll take the eye exam and don't want the glasses.  NOPE.

I felt slimey all over.  This was the scam all along.  They have horrible ratings online.  I should have known this was the game.  I will be reporting them to the BBB, Attorney General, LivingSocial, and disputing the charge with my credit card company.  DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE.

I wouldnt....

You can contact which ever agency you wish to report them. Its not illegal. I wouldnt dispute the charge on your card though. See if you do that then you would be guilty of a couple of serious crimes. First is theft of goods or service. Second would be credit card fraud as you used your card in the commision of this event. Third you will be showing your credit card company that you DO use your card for the purposes of fraud.

I can understand how you would be upset. But can you really sit there and tell the world that you read EVERY SINGLE BIT OF INFORMATION ON THE WEBSITE?? If you cant then you can not cry foul on this. You would be a third party in this whole transaction. The two companies made this agreement to offer the services at the price they did online. That being said, you used the eye exam services, but declined the glasses. That makes you in breach of the deal immediatly. That means that the voucher you purchased would no longer be valid as you have not fulfilled the terms of that voucher. Which means that you would have had to pay for the eye exam.

As I said before, you may complain to whichever agency you think will listen to you. But they recieve hundreds of similar complaints. Not all of them the businesses fault. Like in this case, you made a assumption or two. Because of this your complaint may not hold the weight you wish it too.
