This company is really awful to deal with. First I purchased an Avanti toaster oven, which died completely in 3 days. I could not remember who I purchased it from, so I ate the $50 loss.

I then purchased a $200+ two zone wine cooler by Edgestar. It was then that I realized where I got the toaster oven, when I saw my previous order while tracking my shipment. By then it was too late.

Within just a few months the top section stopped cooling. I contacted the company by e-mail, and they did not reply. After calling them, I was told that they would send me the part and I could put the "cooling node" into the unit myself! Once they sent me the directions to do this, I realized I was in way over my head.

Very long story short- I had to hire an electrician to do it for me, at a cost of $85.00, and this guy gave us a break, because we have known him for years. Now the bottom section and the top section have both stopped cooling. I have sent 3 e-mails, and got no reply.

When I try calling, they put me on hold and never pick up. The bottom line is that I now have a lovely wine cabinet that does not need to be plugged in because it doesn't work, and I am out a total of over $335.00 because I chose to give my business to this company.

To make matters worse, I wrote a review for the awful item, and got a confirmation e-mail that it would go onto the site, but magically, the awful review is nowhere to be found!

Do not order anything from this company, they sell crappy items and then don't stand behind them. After all, who would stand behind crap!

Response to LisaMarie - Compact Appliance

AUTHOR: B. Ford - Service Manager - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 03, 2008

I am sorry to read that your Avanti toaster oven and Edgestar wine cooler both experienced issues. I wanted to take a moment and clarify your options related to these two issues. The Avanti toaster oven that you purchased through our website included a one year parts and labor warranty through Avanti. If the unit was not functioning correctly you would simply contact the Avanti service department (phone number listed in the units manual)and they would assist you under the terms of the warranty so the unit may be repaired. In fact, if the Avanti unit was defective within the initial 15 days of receipt our service dept would have arranged for the unit to be picked up and replaced. I see no indication in your account notes that our service dept was contacted regarding this issue.

As for the Edgestar unit, it included a 90 day labor / 1 year parts warranty. Our accounts notes show that you reported the cooling issue about 5 months after receiving the unit. This places you well outside the labor portion of the warranty but still within parts which is why our service team sent you the needed replacement part free of charge. They also included detailed instructions on how to replace the part if you wanted to try the repair on your own before enlisting a local service tech. I am sorry that the repair did not go as planned and that a local service tech was needed.

It is unfortunate that both products apparently suffered from some type of defect but I do not feel it is accurate to state that Compact Appliance does not stand behind the products that we offer. Every product offered on our website includes a warranty and the terms of the warranty are clearly listed for each item on our website so the consumer may decide if the warranty is sufficient before they make a purchase. In your case, it does not appear that you contacted Avanti or our service dept to have the unit serviced and that the Edgestar warranty was properly administered when the replacement part was issued to you free of charge. Even though your Edgestar unit is now outside of the one year parts warranty I would be happy to arrange for any needed replacement part to be sent to you free of charge in order to assist you with this matter. Simply contact the Edgestar service dept (866) 319-5473, M-F, 8am to 5pm CST and I will notate your account regarding this offer. I will extend this offer to you until the end of December 2008 in order to allow you sufficient time to reach them.

Thank you, B. Ford Service Manager
