This bank is ripping it's customers off. We had over $1400 in over draft charges taken from us. They would take all of the charges you did for the day and enter them as a lump sum, but then come back and charge all of them individually with an over draft charge.
Example: You have $200 in your account, you go to 7 different places for the day, doing some shopping. You have 7 different transactions that total $200.01. They process all of those transactions and one large amount, and since you went over by a penny, they come back and charge all 7 But, transactions with an overdraft fee, even though it hsould only be the last transaction that would be charged.
I went to the Attorney General out in Georgia I believe and filed a complaint about them. Didn't hear back for a couple of weeks, and finally received a check directly from Compass Bank for $400, which was only a third of what they had taken from us. I believe it was keep your mouth shut money. But then nothing else after that.

..you overdrew your account.
It doesn't matter whether you overdrew your account by a penny or a million dollars -- you abrogated your agreement with bank.
Whether their collection practices are draconian or not have no weight if you would have simply followed one simple business practice and NOT OVERDRAWN YOUR ACCOUNT.
It's a simple as that.
And yes, you can whine and moan all you want about not knowing you had overdrawn your account, unless you can provide documentation that you did not do that...then
NO RIP OFF...just bad practices on your part (and some empathy from your bank in refunding some of the fees).
Consider this a learning experience...or truly consider storing your money in a mattress..mattress don't have overdraft fees, but then again, you can't overdraft a mattress.
