How is that a ripoff?

AUTHOR: Chloe - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, April 30, 2008

Did you write the check BEFORE your direct deposit was available? If so, you should not have received any fees. But, if you knowingly wrote a check or authorised any electronic transaction before your direct deposit posted, that is your own fault and you should get fees; floating is illegal.

Also, transactions do not get reversed. They can be in "pending" status before they post. So, in other words, you authorised an electronic debit and a transaction hit the account, causing your pending transaction to overdraw. Remember, as soon as you swipe your card, those funds are not available.

This is not the bank's fault. It is your responsibility to be accountable for your money; you should not write checks or authorise transactions until your deposit is available to use.
