Compass bank is a ripoff because people keep getting ahold of my account number. The first account was broken into and made charges on my account that I did not authorize. Well, I filed dispute forms and they took care of it and refunded me the NSF fees. Then I closed that account so nothing else would happen to me and then opened a new account.

Everything was going smoothly for a little while, so I decided to start having my payroll check direct deposted. I had made a payment to my phone company, and at the time I had funds to do so. Then some credit card company that I never heard of had withdrew $12 from my account which caused my payment to the phone company to come back and cause my account to overdraft.

Now I have 3 NSF fees on my account for no reason at all. I think that Compass bank shares account information with people.

$12.00?

AUTHOR: Resty - (U.S.A.)

A 12 dollar charge sent your account into overdrawn status? I would think you may have slightly more issues going on than your post eludes to. Im no fan of any bank but this has happened to you more than once....it gives cause for concern.

who are you writing checks to?

your acct info is never shared with anyone by Compass. If you are paying for things on line or even writing a check in a store you are giving your acct number to whomever is accepting your check. It is more likely that is where the fraud is originating from than from Compass.

It was my bank account number. Not my check card number.

Is it your check card number...

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

or your actual checking account number that is being compromised?

If it's your check card, get rid of it. Cancel it and get a debit card only. The banks receive a fee from the merchant each time you use it, that's why you see so many advertisements urging people to use them. The number gets stolen (which is very easy to do) and because it tied to your checking account your funds are tied up until the issue gets resolved.

If it's your actual account number, you need to be very careful who you give out that information to. You should also be able to obtain a form from your bank that limits who thay can market your information to. It needs to be renewed every year. I usually receive the form in the mail every year to fill out and send back otherwise it defaults to allowing the bank to provide my information to companies they think may have products or services I might be interested in. Although the banks don't usually release account and routing numbers (unless by court order).

Good luck.
