I signed up for the refer a friend program also and was ripped off. When I called to check the status of my rebate they simply stated "you did not sign up for that program". "There is no record of it." Which I know for a fact that I did!!! My mother gave me her account number and the 800- number.
They said I did not call the right 1-800 number. Which is apparently what they are telling a lot of people. I know I signed up for this and other rebates from this company, which I seriously doubt I will ever receive. I have tried contacting other customer service reps via email to try and get some help, because the customer service rep on the phone was so nasty towards me,
I'm still waiting to see if they will assist me.
Also, at a previous residence I had attempted to get service and the tech said I had "too many trees around", so he couldn't do it. Well, thats fine but they said they wouldn't debit the $21.50 equipment fee, since I never got service. Well, guess what? THEY DID!! That messed my checking account up and every time I called the 1800 # they would connect me to someone else....Point is, I never got that $21.50 back.
Maybe, after that experience I should not have chose Direct tv again, But I believe that they know our options are very limited in some areas.
So much for customer Appreciation.

#2 Consumer Suggestion
Ask and Ye Shall Receive...

First, calm down and call their customer service back. Politely ask for a supervisor. Explain your situation. Ask them what they propose to do to remedy this situation. If you have no luck, ask for a manager. If that doesn't work, call customer retention.
I wouldn't bother emailing them, and I would surely tell them that your experience with the customer rep you first spoke to left a bitter taste in your mouth.
Make sure you keep notes and ask for badge numbers as to who you spoke with. Be sure to ask your account is notated as to the solution or your call for the complaint.
I had to call for the same referral credit. They escalated it happily and also said if for some reason it gets declined, they will credit both accounts with a one time $100 credit all at once.
They will remedy this for you, you just need to stay calm, be polite but firm, and speak to the right people. Tell them because you had that horrible spurious charge previously, it took your mom a long time to talk you into trying them again. If your mom has been a customer for a while, she can help, perhaps on a conference call. It's kind of embarrassing referring someone and then having them not get the credit, making it look like the company you referred doesn't have their stuff together.
It might take you an hour of your time, but make sure you always talk to a supervisor and escalate it from there. Even IF the rep you speak to says they did what a supervisor would do. Thank them, call back and ask to speak with a supervisor.

the only other option you have is. going with sky vision. their is some channels you wont get. like disney and what ever they control...abc family, espn and also wgn, tbs. they reserve the right to black out. you can do a google search for them and see it what they got will work for you. the receiver is a dsr410. they show a little ku dish with it. they use the 4dtv technology. the same technology that directv, dish network and the cable companies use to receive their channels form. comcast as H.I.T.S. on what the call a mega pipeline on the satellite W5 using the 4DTV technolgy ... they used to be on the ku side of what used to be called G4.but im not sure what satellite the ku dish uses. but you can go to www.lyngsat.com to see all the satellites in orbit around the world for analog and digital broadcast. go to the box at the top center you will see frequencies on the left. go across to the right and click on americas. this will show all the satellite beaming their signals to north and south america. its interesting to see all the satellites. they show l,s c, ku and ka band satellites. what encryption system the channels are using and if they are free to air dvb. the satellite at 97 degrees west longitude is where all the arab channels are. then the satellite at 101 show the asian channels. also directv's satellites are at 101 degrees west longitude. some satellites are hybrid c/ku band. some are just c or ku band. the 2 ka band satellites that directv uses at 99 degrees and 103 degrees west longitude . were called spacenet and were orignially going to be used for high speed internet. for anyone that would like to learn more about satellites check out the web site.
