What makes DirectBuy of Sunnyvale a Rip off?

Is it because the $5,000 membership for the first three years then $299.00 for the next 7 years for a grand total of $ 7,093.00 for a ten year membership. Possibly, but that is just a fact you are given the night you join so you can not truthfully call that a rip off but the other information that they fail to tell you the night you join to me is what makes this company a rip off.

They do not tell you that electronics such as TVs, DVD players and stereo equipment you can get cheaper at retail stores such as BestBuy, Frys, Wal-Mart, and Circuit City. Nor do they tell you that most large appliances such as washer, dryer, refrigerators are usually only a hundred dollars cheaper than retail stores. Also they even have you believing you are buying from the manufacturers direct when sometimes you might be getting appliances from your local SEARS, North Texas APPLIANCES and Gold Star Appliances and paying their prices... Shocker huh!! Give me $500.00 and I can do the same thing for you in half the time.

They do not tell you that the so called 6 percent handling fee goes to the store. Instead they might suggest that it goes to the manufacturer, not true it goes to the club. Yes EVERYTHING that you see that has a 6 % handling fee goes to club so say your furniture you bought was $8,000.00. Well since it is furniture go ahead and tack on 6 % for the club so that means the store gets $480.00. So now your furniture is costing you $8,480.00.

Now onto Freight, most of the furniture companies use the UCCD freight company. Who is UCCD? UCCD stands for UNITED CONSUMERS CLUB DISTRIBUTION, YES you have it the freight company is owned and operated by the same parent company. Let me give you an example on how there freight works. You take your total amount of weight then multiply it by it by the number given on the weight chart then multiply it by the fuel surcharge that gives you your weight. An actual example is as follows: Say your furniture ways 800 pounds well the multiplier is .5586 so you multiply 800 times .5586 and you come up with 446.88 then the fuel surcharge of 1.18 percent so multiply 446.88 by 1.18 and you come up with $527.32. So your freight is $527.32. Now truckers correct me if I am wrong but when, have you charged 55 cents per pound to carry something. Now are you keeping a running total? Your original cost was $8,000 plus handling brought you up to $8,480.00 now freight at $527.32. That brings your subtotal to $9007.32 now they add tax onto everything so add 8.25 % which is $743.10 so now your new total is $9,750.42 almost two thousand dollar difference.

Now on the back end it goes onto their company database and you are told your items could take 6 to 8 weeks to get to the center. What takes so it long you might ask. Well what you are told is that your items are shipped from over seas and it takes that long to ship. Well what is actually taking so long is this. It takes on average one whole week to center validate meaning it is sitting some where around the center waiting on someone else to look at it and pass it on to the corporate office. Then it goes to what is CSC validation where it can last for weeks possibly months Why you might ask? Well say that nice sofa you picked out, the one where you spent hours looking at different fabrics. Well the sofa was discontinued not yesterday or even the day you chose it but like last year. Yes the sofa you purchased for $9,750.42 was discontinued LAST YEAR!! Or better yet that sofa can not have that particular fabric you chose. The center is notified of possible concerns within a week but because of short staff and improperly trained staff you will not find out until either you call checking status or in two months when someone finally gets up enough nerve to call you. Then once all is fixed you are then put into Awaiting Acknowledgement this is where the vendor actually sees it for the first time. Depending on if this item is in stock you might be able to get your merchandise in a week or two. Now do you see where the 4 to 6 weeks comes from? By this point you are most likely calling to see if your items are in the showroom since it has been 6 weeks and you are told no, but it is shipping. What does this mean? It is either actually shipping damaged to saw dust in the warehouse and is awaiting repair or lost somewhere or they have no idea where it is. If it is damaged a deluxer will come out and repair it when he has time. You see this is his side job as he has full time job somewhere else. Most of the time you are never told your item is damaged because if you knew you would be demanding a new one since you purchased a new one. In two weeks your item is ready and you are called and notified that your item is here now it has only been 8 weeks but you are greeted with a smile and told that is good timing since your stuff came from over seas.

If you are angry and want to speak with an owner good luck!! You have better luck trying to reach the governor of Texas at least he shows up to his office more than once a month. Want a quick fast response? Contact the BBB or have your lawyer send them a letter that way you will get a response phone call in week or less. I can go on more about the illegal practices of this quirky place but frankly it is neither worth my time nor the effort. Take my advice and just say no to DirectBuy

This post really really made me furious. I no longer work for DirectBuy, however I have some strong views I would like to share. These views are only mine, not ones of DirectBuy or any affiliates whatsoever. This is completely my opinion and mine alone. On that note...
I can't believe someone would deliberately post something so broad, so general and unreliable. Here is some things that you do NOT understand about DirectBuy. Do you know how many members DirectBuy has??? Do you have even the slightest IDEA of how many people are members??? Absolutely not.
Apparently you think the whole company should be put off on this website because of YOUR order? That is pretty selfish if you ask me, and I'll tell you why.
I will compare you to the woman who sued McDonald's for hot coffee spilling on her lap and she went crying to the authorities about it. You are just like her in this aspect. How many people goto McDonald's every day?? Millions upon millions of men and women drive thru every day to get their HOT coffee, sandwiches, etc. It is no different - not EVERYONE can get exactly what they want out of a company. EVER. It's absolutely impossible to please every single customer. The only press people hear about companies is BAD press. People want to hear and talk about everything negative. I dont see many websites that are dedicated to the positive side to ANY business, except well, the actual companies' website. Am I wrong?? NOPE. If there is a company out there that has 100% satisfaction, please LET ME KNOW!!!! I think if any company was perfect, everyone would know who they were. Everyone would use this service/product, because they would be perfect with 100% satisfaction. The truth is, there is NO such thing!

There will always be the crybabies, like you, for example, spewing your bad experiences like the plague. Bad reactions, bad experiences, going onto ripoffreport and blabbing on about all your misfortunes and how you got ripped off - I wonder if you do this in other aspects in your life and other companies and if you are THAT bored and THAT mad about it all, it's necessary for you to keep these bad things coming to you by doing things like... oh I don't know, go on the internet and cry about it?? Your bringing more misfortune into your life by constantly being negative and crying, dont you realize that?? You are effortlessly attracting all of these bad things to happen to you by simply complaining and thinking about them all the time, crying about it on messageboards, etc... That's something more intuitive and between the lines than your plea, more intuitive than I think you can grasp, so I will let that go so... anyways.

DirectBuy is nationwide and is in Canada as well. There are close to 150 locations across North America, serving countless happy and loyal customers. When you goto McDonald's and you order a Big Mac, do you think every single sandwich is going to be stacked exactly like it is in the commercial? Of course not. LIGHTBULB!!! That's advertising sweetheart. MOST people are satisfied with their Big Mac, otherwise McDonald's wouldnt be sweeping the country with drive thru's. MOST people are happy with it and continue to eat there. Every now and then, someone is going to spill some coffee and have a fit, freaking everyone out about hot coffee from McDonald's. It sounds eerily familiar to this situation, don't you think? I think I'll take a double latte.

In regards to the cry baby complaint about the handling fee - let me ask you... would you do the job your currently working at let's say... for free?? Do you think that the sofa just appears out of the sky without anyone actually handling your furniture FOR YOU??? Or handing the orders? Or any other situation that comes into play having to do with your precious sofa? Of course not, your just going to complain about it and not ask questions as to why. This brings me to my other point. When you DID ask questions, such as why it takes so long to ship, your story goes into this fabricated situation about it 'sitting somewhere in the center'?? Meaning, it's already been made and shipped?? In which case the service people would have contacted you to inform you that your order had come into the center like they always do. Now, this means that not only has it been made and shipped, but you continue on as if this mystery sofa has never even had a nail drilled in it yet?? You COMPLETELY contradict yourself in that complaint and I think it's an absolutely ridiculous and false plea.
In the beginning of your complaint about the estimated shipping time, which I know for a fact that EVERY back page in EVERY CATALOG says ESTIMATED ship time, your sofa said it would be shipped in 6 to 8 weeks.

At the end of your complaint about the ship time, you explain that you received your sofa in 8 weeks. In between this 8 weeks, it is not even your responsibility to know where it is or where it's being made, etc. thats what they explained to you in the beginning!!! You contradicted yourself once again... That's the beauty of this company - that's why you have a membership. Because these details, shipping, upholstered and made to your exact requirements are being taken care of in that time, without you needing to worry about it. Choosing the fabric and choosing the style takes time, yes... then you have to order it and it has to be fit with your exact requirements, one of the many things that is wonderful about DirectBuy... you don't have to pick a sofa out from a lineup, you pick your own. It was sent and received in the time that was presented to you. In 8 weeks. Just as they told you the first time. I laugh at this completely ridiculous statement, contradicting yourself in most aspects. It's unbelievable the things you have fabricated here.

I can understand having some discrepencies with an owner, possibly a service representative or a specific branch, but to condemn the entire company ("Take my advice and just say no to DirectBuy") because of your hot coffee accident is completely childish and outlandishly ridiculous. It seems like many of these explanations you have for problems, were in fact created by your negative and contradictory statements. If I was the owner of the club you speak of, I would have revoked your membership and sent you packing. And from there, you could happily goto a McDonald's down the street and get a nice, hot coffee for yourself.

Dear sir, The reason you know so much is because, and its very apparent, that you worked for this company and were terminated for whatever reason. So in revenge you have to slam a company and attempt to ruin its name by playing on the fears of the unknowing. The points you make are points that are commonly known to an educated person who listens during the open house.

The Sales people are happy to answer questions. If you ask. When people get defensive because they hear the price tag involved...it just shows one thing. They cant afford it and so they get angry. If it was 5$ to join everyone would be a member and buy at cost.

DirectBuy may not be for everyone but it works for most who take the time, and ask the questions. if the questions do not get answered You just go higher.

That company doesnt want any one to be unhappy. How the hell would they make any more money in the future. It doesnt make sense not to care. You have made some sense but there are many holes in your "rant" and we all know now that its because you are simply a disgruntled employee.

We all know that no matter what company you do a search on, you are bound to find a ton of negative crap. So lay off with the lies and tell the facts straight or dont at all!
