We signed up with DishNetwork on 11/9/2011. Sounded like a great deal and paid our $63.98 up front to start the service. Install scheduled for today (11/11/11) and what an epic fail.

First they had the wrong equipment listed. We had signed up for all high def boxes as we have 3 high def televisions. They brought standard def boxes. The tech dialed up the main office to get the situation straightened out and he just happened to have the correct equipment in his truck. Imagine that!!

When talking to the rep to get the equipment straightened out, suddenly there is a new charge of $104.99 for LEASED equipment? I'm not paying $104.99 for something I have to give back when I no longer have a Dish Network account. So, they send the tech with the wrong equipment with the express purpose of shaking customers down for an extra $100. Hardly ethical. They refused to make good on THEIR error, so we refused the install.

Please reconsider before signing on with Dish Network. It sounds like a really good deal, but in reality, it's a bait and switch deal that will have you forking over more money just to get set up. If they will do this to you before you even have an account, just imagine what they will do to you once you are locked into a 24 month agreement.

Instead of being angry, I guess I should be thankful that I narrowly escaped, huh? We still have to wait nearly a week for our refund of the initial $63.98.

You're not an employee?

Seriously now... yes you are an employee. It's obvious by your response. We are with DirecTV now, and granted, they SUCK, but no...we did NOT have to pay an extra fee and we have 3 boxes which are ALL HD. You can find companies that value their customers and do not charge $104.99 for equipment that is leased. If I were purchasing the box, I would totally understand that charge. I am however, NOT purchasing, but paying solely for the privilege of leasing another piece of equipment.

ALSO... since you probably ARE an employee, you should know this one... I found out this afternoon that there supposedly are convicted felons that are handling the setup of new accounts for Dish Network and are handling people's financial information. This bears further investigation but I have requested background checks on the employees at the call center that routed our service request. I will be referring them to a consumer protection attorney as I see this as having the potential to be a serious issue for consumers.

Bait and Switch?

- Let's see what is the job of a tech.  Umm..they go around install, support/repair Dish equipment.  So he comes to your house and actually has "extra" equipment in his van/truck.  Wow, what are the odds of that happening.

I just love people who actually seek out to find conspiracies in everything.

suddenly there is a new charge of $104.99 for LEASED equipment? I'm not paying $104.99 for something I have to give back when I no longer have a Dish Network account.
- Was the $104 a one-time charge or recurring?  Was it for 1 or all 3 boxes?  If it was a 1 time for all 3 you would be looking at just under about $1.50 per box per month for the 2 year contract.

By the way I doubt you will find a Satellite or Cable company that does not require you to LEASE their equipment.   Of course if you don't believe me just go call around and ask.  You may find that they are willing to sell you a box.  I think the going rate is around $500-$600 PER BOX for the HD boxes, if it has a DVR add a couple hundred on top of that.

Oh and no I am not an employee of Dish.
