Dish Network is ruining my credit!
Dish Network Review
Beware! Dish Network will rip you off and ruin your credit! Dont risk it, sing up for service with someone else.
After 4 or 5 years of service I moved and decided to cancel my service. I paid my bill in full. They sent me a pre-paid box to return the dish network cable box. I put the cable box in the return box and dropped it off at a nearby Fed EX / Ups pick up station, and that is how this story should have ended. Instead that is where my Dish Network nightmare began! Maybe a month or two after mailing the cable box, I got a call saying they had never received it and they wanted over $400 dollars. I politely told the dish network agent that I had mailed the box and they need to double check the warehouse and look for it or call the package delivery service and sort it out with them because I no longer have the box.
I said to the lady: (Why would I want an old Dish Network cable box if I dont have Dish Network anymore!) I now have Comcast and they have all their own equipment.
Its not my fault if Dish Network lost my returned cable box, I did everything I was supposed to do, I sent it back to them! After my last conversation with Dish Network I didnt hear anything back from them until I heard from a collection agency demanding payment. This is the only collection on my credit report but now because of Dish Network I am spending thousands of extra dollars on higher interest rates, I am also looking into buying a home and I dont qualify for some programs because of Dish Network!
Even if I paid this bill I dont owe, this collection will show paid and still be on my credit report for 7 more years! That means Dish Network will be ruining my credit for a total of more than 11 years! At this point I would even be willing to pay the $400, but I would want it off my credit report! Im not sure what do now, make a complaint to FTC, BBB, Attorney General, call my local news station and get the rip off reporter to do a story on it, start a website dedicated to Dish Network Complaints, complain on every review site on the internet?? If anybody body can help me or give me some advice I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

How to handle this

The first thing you need to do is to send a certified mail to the collection agency telling them you are not responsible for the charges. You may ask them to prove that you actually owe the ammount said and to show proof of it. I would then get ahold of UPS and ask for the tracking information to see if it was delivered. If it was dropped off to them then they can do anything. You can also send another certified letter stating that you do not want them to call you any more.
If they report you to a credit agency within that 30 days contact the credit agency and tell them that you filed for verification of charges and proof that the credit agency owns the account now and that they never responded and infact illegally posted this on your credit report. This will remove them. The FCC will govern this so you can file a complain with them and also do it with your AG. If you have the proof that it was delivered then you can even have them sued and fined for a good chunk of change. Most people do not know these things so the companies get away with it.
