Dish Network does not state anywhere in the contract nor were we informed by any service representative prior to signing the contract that there is absolutely no 'grace period'. We purchased Dish Network exactly 10 days ago. Believing the many advertisements you can see on their own website and a few televised commercials that the "Try us for free" statements were valid, we ordered dish network to try it out. We called prior to what we thought was within our 'grace period' to cancel services.

We called around 6 pm on August 4th, 2012 and spoke to a service representative. Just before tying loose ends to finally cancel service, which we are extremely unhappy with, the representative calmly declared that we will be paying a $437.00 cancellation fee. The early termination fee is outrageous and clearly trickery. I am a nursing student and my husband works part time, we can not afford to pay such a high fee.

After pleading and explaining our case with the representative we were then directed to Diane Boush, a lower end manager.. who yet again then stated we will have to pay the fee regardless if we are unhappy with service. After reviewing the contract, there is a clear statement regarding the cancellation fee that the fee is in the "option of the sales representative" meaning that the fee is not obligatory or crucial and completely under the discretion of the representative handling the cancellation. Sharing this information with Diane, she rudely stated that they will be charging us and abruptly transferred us to a different manager, Tim Obers.

Tim was very unkind and unwilling to work with us, (his costumers) as he described regardless of how early we are cancelling service, even if it was on the first day, the $437.00 would apply.We aren't getting most of the channels due to bad reception, and will be moving soon so we thought it would be best to cancel.

How is this even legal? They are falsely advertising free trials when there are none and binding costumers to contracts for services that are almost non-existent. We are extremely unhappy and will be sharing this information with everyone we know, hopefully deterring our friends and family from ever purchasing Dish. They do not work with their costumers and are rude and have completely outrageous policies in order to scam costumers out of more money. Just terrible

I caught your post even though it was from awhile back and just wanted to pitch in some input.  When customers are having issues with their service, equipment, or signal, we appreciate hearing from them as soon as possible so we can get it tackled immediately.  We value our customers' loyalty, want them to have the best experience with us possible, and strive to provide the highest quality customer support in the industry.

From Free offer complaint to Wants Grace period

 I have to agree with the other Dish contract holder, there is nothing in my contract  either either that offered a free trial period.

This company does not have to offer a grace period,  it is their business.  they do offer lots of freebies, clearly spelled out as to how long the 'free' part  is.  if you  want the service, and didn't read the contract, and now are complaining you can't afford it, then you could not afford it in the first place.  No one twisted your arm to try it, you thought you saw a 'good deal' for you, failed to do due diligence and are now complaining.

yes I agree not getting the channels and poor reception is a serious problem you should be complaining about that,  get a service tech out to verify your problem, etc. not that you are a poor nurse and  he's  part time employee...not the company's problem, and smacks of you needing daddy to fix it for you.

Im a retired book seller, not an employee, and have had dish for 6 years.  They have always been clear on how long a  free  trial channel is (3 months for Starz, etc) they have a right to charge a cancellation fee, you do not have to like it, but you do have to be responsible for your own actions.

It sounds to me like your either a really serious Dish Network fan- which is pretty unheard of, or a more likely scenario- you work for them.

My complaint is not about whether or not Dish Network offers free trials, but that they do not offer a grace period. I was thorough to describe that when we realized there was no such thing as a grace period or trial for Dish Network,  which is an obvious misunderstanding on our part, we were disappointed, but the real issue here is that Dish chooses to charge their costumers an unrealistic and bank-breaking cancellation fee of almost half a grand of money, $437.00 to be exact.

Our other complaint is that their customer service is horrible and that they are unwilling to work with their customers. We do not get quality satellite service, hell, we dont even get reception, not a single channel on our television... so why should we have to pay for their ''service'' ? I mean it, they lock you into a contract even if the quality is terrible.. you are obliged to pay them for nothing.  If this was the case for you, oh Mr. Dish Network advocate, would you not be as bewildered and frustrated as we are? My guess is that you would be.

I would like to try Dish network.  Please let me know where it says we can try it for a period for free.  I would sign up in a second. The only thing I saw on the web site about a test drive was referring to a remote app once you're signed up for regular service. Perhaps I missed it?

Since when does a contract have to list all things NOT included?  This would be a very long list and then customers would complain there was so much information that it was just there to mis-lead and it wasn't "explained" to them.

Their try us free statement in their website says subscribers can watch free movie previews.

Nowhere did I see, nor have I ever heard on their ads that they have a "free trial" period for their service.

Your own report states that you called prior to what YOU thought was the "free treal period."

How long did YOU think the "free trial" period was?

I have Dish Network and my contract states there will be a pro-rated cancellation fee for any disconnects (for whatever reason) in less than two years....what does YOUR contract say?

Sorry you didn't do your due diligence and are now trying to shift blame.

No, I DON'T work for Dish and never have, but am satisfied with my service...I DID read MY contract.
