I am interested in finding current Dish Network customers with 921 PVR HD receivers who are interested in filing a class action suit against Dish Network's CEO, Charlie Ergen and Executive Vice President Jim DeFranco based on their company's shoddy support of their expensive and highly problematic 921 PVR HD Receivers.

If you own a Dish 921 receiver you already know the frustrations of using this badly designed receiver. It has made a much less-than-favorable reputation for itself with users and it has very low recommendations on the web.

I have very annoying problems with it, practically on a daily basis, like: cursor freezing up in menus, not being able to record two programs and watch another recorded program as Dish says, jerky picture, out-of-sych audio and other problems. >> It is my third 921 receiver.
As with many, I have invested too much in Dish so I prefer not to go with DirectTV. Also, DirectTV doesn't offer the programming that I want.

I have read from users of Dish Network's newer HD PVR 942 receiver that it's a completely differently designed receiver and much more stable than the 921.

The Class Action Suit resolve will force Dish Network's CEO to rightfully buyback all 921 receivers at a fair depreciation rate given the quality of the receiver or allow customers with 921 receivers who want to stay with Dish to trade in their receivers for a 942 receiver for the maximum price of $200 including taxes, shipping and any setup fees if any.

Ideally, I'd also like to see a court judge slap Dish's CEO Charlie Ergen on the head while shouting at him, What were you thinking to sell such useless, expensive junk to your customers and on top of that, not give them the proper support??!!

Dish network is well aware that their 921 HD receivers are PURE CRAP! Yet CEO Charlie Ergen is still laughing at the amount of money he ripped off from customers who purchased his company's expensive 921 receiver. Some customers paid $1,000+ when this receiver was released. And Dish's high def programmers AND technicians are brainless, fruitless twits when it comes to resolving any issues with the 921 receiver. Their only resolve is their consistent, weak answer--reset it. Nothing else.

I pay $80 month for my service at Dish. Now mutiply that by the thousands (millions?) of Dish subscribers. I know that Dish can afford to clean up their mess with their 921 receiver.

To all frustrated users of the 921 receiver, this is your chance to make Dish Network and their CEO Charlie Ergen step up to the plate and clean up the mess that they left us with. Especially when CEO Mr. Ergen thinks he is god-like and above it all.

p.s. I read that a 921 user attempted to ask Dish to do a buy back/exchange of their 921 receiver and they only laughed at him...

AUTHOR: Terry - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, April 29, 2006

Below is a letter I am submitting to Dish Network/Echostar Communications and the BBB.
In my opinion this unit was released with flawed software and all attempt on Dish's part to correct or patch it has only made things worse. We should be give replacements for FREE or refunded the full $500 - $1000 people have been swindled out of. If a suit is to be created I wish to be included.

Dear EchoStar Communications / Dish Network,
I writting in referrence to the problems with my 921 receiver that I bought about a year ago. I am also sending a copy of this to the better business Bureua I feel that after the $500 I paid for this unit, that was apparently flawed by design, I should be moved to the 622 for no charge. Following are just a few expamples, and by far not all inclusive, of the problems I have had from day 1.

I had my DVR 921 installed for a week. It worked ok overall but every day or so it seemed to freeze up (most often when recording) and would not access the 2nd tuner. The program guide will come up and when I select a channel, the info banner comes up but the screen just stays black-no picure or sound. I have to unplug and reboot and then everything is OK for another day or so.
We had our 921 for about 2 months and there were several problems. The software wass definitely buggy. Every so often it gets stuck in stretch or zoom mode and we have to reboot numerous times to get it back to a regular format. We seemed to get more break-up and pixellation with this unit in general versus our previous, and free, 501 Dish PVR. Local channels coming in via the antenna on the Dish 921 are also way more susceptible to lost singal.

The current and most annoying problem is "The Black Screen of Death". I'll checking out the DVR catalog of prev. recordings and when I try to go back to the show, I can hear it and see it on the edges but with a BIG black box in the most of the screen, or the whole screen is black. Once you get that screen, the only otion is to reboot and you lose everything.
I've done my research and these problems are happening to a lot of people. Check out "http://www.ripoffreport.com/Satellite-Companies/Dish-Network/dish-network-ceo-charlie-ergen-E7MD5.htm" for examples of the exact same issues. The problem from day 1 has been poorly written software and the pushed down updates/fixes only seem to break the unit more.
I have called Dish's Tech support on many occasions only to get I'm sorry and pass info along to the software engineers. Most recently I was offered to move up to the new 622 for $300 with a $200 rebate if I give them back my 921, or try swapping my 921 it for another 921. From what I have found reported, swapping the unit for the same does not fix the problems. I tried to reason with the rep that I sould not have to pay anything since this unit, that I paid over $500 for, has never worked right from day one and is not working right due to an obvious software design flaw. I was told she is not able to do this. I am willing to give the new receiver a chance if I can get a fair trade.
