Because two installers of Dish were unable to upgrade my equipment to HD I switched to Direct TV. The technician for Direct TV took the old Dish receivers with him as I assumed they were of no use (kind of like old mattresses).

Obviously, they cannot be activated without Dish assistance. I am now being billed for two receivers and it has been turned over to collection and reported on my credit report. I have asked the collection company repeatedly to sue me. The Dish satellite remains attached to the outside of my home along with the Direct TV satellite due to the ineptness of the Dish installer.

In the past when I had trouble with a receiver, a technician would just upgrade and leave the old receiver and they were eventually discarded.

My mother, has three old receivers in a storage shed that she has never been asked to return whenever an upgrade took place. However, she did not discontinue her service with Dish as I did.

There is apparently some disparity as to how Dish treat continuing customers regarding old equipment and customers who discontinue service regarding old equipment.

leasing the equipment

AUTHOR: James - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, September 13, 2008

i dont have enough info on your case. but dish network and directv both now lease their equipment. under the dish network "dish'in it up" upgrade lease plan you dont own the equipment. the last time you were upgraded you had to sign a lease agreement. the installer was required to leave you a copy. if you didnt sign one or was not left a copy of the agreement.then someone really dropped the ball. either find the paperwork they might have left you. or the way to tell if you were leasing the equipment is checking an old billing statment . if you were leasing the equipment you would have been charged 5 or 6 dollars a month for each receiver leased. thats on top the programming you were paying for. new customers also lease the equipment but they are not charged a lease. only when someone upgrades are they charged for the lease of the equipment. if you were'nt being charged a least . then the equipment belonged to you. on the other hand dish and directv installers are not allowed to take the others equipment. to be honest the receivers are worthless once they are activated. the only thing worth the money is the dish and lnb. dish network thinks so little of the equipment . that if you owned the equipment then upgraded to the least. dish network would give the customer a 10.00 dollar credit to their account for each receiver upgraded. i hope thsi helps you.

Your filing against the wrong company!!!

AUTHOR: Dave - (U.S.A.)

Your complaint says that direct tv took equipment that belonged to dish network!! Your complaint should be against direct tv. They did not own the equipment. If I lose my current dvr from my local cable company, I will have to pay for it!! I am trying to decide whether dish network or direct tv is the better alternative. At least file your complaint against the right company!!

So the DirectTV installer takes(aka steals) your Dish equipment and you are upset at Dish?

I think you should be calling DirectTV and filing a police report for the equipment that their installer stole.
