Dish Network conned me for two years after I had a fire at my house and moved out. I called them shortly after the fire, the week of June 8, 2013, to close the account and they conned me into keeping my account open promising me “it will not cost me any money.” Two years later, July 2015, they claim I owe them $947.83 for services and equipment. They did not tell me they wanted their fire damaged equipment back when I could give it back to them when I still lived in Huntsville, AL. No, now in July 2015, they want the equipment plus money for “services” in the past two years while I have lived in Elizabeth City, NC. I have not received any services from them since the fire in June 8, 2013. They conned me into keeping the account open so they could bill me for services not possible. I called them several times to close the account, but they would not listen to anything I had to say, just “I will not have to pay them if I keep the account suspended.” Now, I get this bill for $947.83. What a con job!

Solution to Dish Network scams

Dish Network seems as though they are out to ruin their repuation. The same exact thing happened to me within the last year. I sold my house in June 2014. I cancelled my Dish Network service immediately. However, early this spring, I started receiving a bill from Dish. I phoned them and they state I put the service on a "9 month pause". #1 - I have never heard of such a thing as a pause, and #2 - why would I put the service on a pause when I had no intention of purchasing a house at that time. It was complete fraud. So in early spring they started up service on THE HOUSE THAT I SOLD LAST YEAR!!! After many phone calls and hours of frustration with Dish Network representatives and manager, they refused to remove the charges from my account.
I was at my wits end. I contacted Better Business Burea. Within (3) days the problem was taken care of. Dish Network is committing fraud!!! I figure I have spent over $10,000 in the last 10 years with Dish Network, yet they were unwilling to clear my account of fraudulent charges of approx. $250. Not a smart business decision on their behalf. I will never ever do business with them again. Shame on them. I just purchased a house and I will be taking my business elsewhere.

Equipment...

YOU are being charged for the equipment that YOU have and NOT for services!!! YOU SHOULD have sent that equipment back right after the fire so YOU wouldnt be responsible for it at a later date. THIS is on YOU for failing to return the equipment that YOU were LEASING!!!!! EACH box you had is going to cost you. YOU are mad that YOU threw away that equipment!! It was fire damaged so in YOUR mind it had no value, but in THIER mind damaged or not it STILL cost them money at one point and THEY want that money back. MONEY or the EQUIPMENT!!! Thats your choices. Pay them or send back the equipment. This IS NOT a ripoff, it IS the cost of LEASING the equipment. And NOT returning it. WHY are YOU so shocked that THEY want money for thier equipment?? YOU AGREED TO IT ALL!!!
When YOU signed the contract YOU DID NOT READ WHAT YOU WERE SIGNING!!! In EVERY cable/sattilite providers contract there is a clause that YOU are responsible for returning the LEASED equipment. When YOUR service is completed by either switching or having YOUR contract expire its on YOU to return said equipment. If YOU do not return the leased equipment then YOU agreed that THEY get to charge the card YOU have on file. Since odds are that the card YOU had on file is expired then YOU get a bill requesting payment for the euipment YOU leased. Perhaps the REAL issue is that YOU JUST DIDNT READ!!!
