A sales rep came to my door in July of 2005 selling Dish Network. I signed a customer agreement that said I would be charged 36.99 a month for Dish Network, plus get 5.00 off per month for a year for Club Dish. The installation was one day late, so after I registered a complaint, they agreed to credit my account another 5.00 per month for a year, bringing my monthly total for a year to 26.99. Thus far, I have averaged a 50.00 per month bill for the past eight months.
I have been phoning Dish Network periodically to ask questions about my bill and never get a straight answer. Dish Network corportate in Pasadena keeps referring me to the retailer Dish One in Utah. Dish One in Utah says there's nothing they can do - it's an issue with my local retailer. However, they cannot tell me who my local retailer is or give me an address or phone number to contact. The only name I have on my contract is David Mitchell for a Portland office. As I said, he showed up at my door last July.
I specifically asked David if my charges would EVER go above 36.99 per month because I'd heard there were often hidden fees associated with satellite TV. He assured me that they would NOT increase above 36.99. This figure is written on the signed Customer Agreement.
I have received absolutely no help or apology for the misrepresentation from anybody at Dish Network or Dish One, other than one person named Jen who I spoke with at the Utah office on April 26, 2006, although she claimed there was nothing she could do to help me she did apologize.
If I could deal directly with the person David Mitchell who sold me the service then it might be easier to resolve this issue, but Dish One claims they have no record of him as an employee.
Meanwhile, I would like to be credited 120.00 for the extra 15.00 per month I have been paying the past 8 months, in addition to having my monthly bill properly adjusted to 36.99 effective immediately. Otherwise, I would like to cancel my service immediately with NO cancellation charge!
I am very displeased with the dishonesty of David Mitchell when he sold the service, and the extremely poor customer service I have received from Dish Network and Dish One in the past months trying to resolve this issue.

NEVER

Never ever ever sign any type of contract for any type of residential TV, Internet, or phone service that has anyhting to do with making you keep the service for a certain length of time exspecially ones that reguire you to pay a early termination fee. Because what happens is they lock you into keeping the service or haveing to pay a ridiculous amount of money to cancel it if you are unhappy with the service that you are recieving.
Yes the SAT companies do charge extra a month for more than one TV and local channels so that maybe what you are seeing on your bill and yes it was wrong of the sales person not to tell you that if it wasn't included in your package that you signed up for and then added the locals after the fact before the install was completed. More or less what my point is you should never sign a contract for any type of service that is listed above, because you will more than likely get screwed in the long run . At least if there is not contract you can cancel it any time you want and don't have to worry about high cancelation fees.

Check your billing carefully

If you are not receiving one, ask for an itemized bill, and you should ask for one for each month you have been connected. Look for charges for additional TV's being connected, additional channels over the basic package and pay per view entries.
If there are no additional charges showing and you believe you are still being incorrectly billed go straight to the top. Write a detailed letter to the company chairman:
Charles W. Ergen
Chairman And CEO
Echostar Communications
9601 South Meridian Boulevard
Englewood
CO, 80112
In reality, he will personally not read this, however, an executive secretary at the minimum will. Going to the top often gets resolution you would not otherwise find.
You are getting the typical customer service runaround. Customer service reps generally have very limited options and often have their performance reviewed based on the number of calls they complete in a day - so getting you off the phone is a priority to them.

How many TV sets do you have connected? You have to pay for having extra TV's connected. Did you ask to have local channels? You have to pay extra for local channels.
Is your bill itemized at all? Don't forget that taxes will be added as well.
