Bitter reality behind eBay Buyer Protection Program

Lot of people might feel confident buying at eBay just because it says protected by eBay Buyer Protection Program. However in reality, it is just a way to fish the buyer and most of the time when buyer has issue eBay will make decision on the favor of seller. Remember, its seller who is making eBay rich. It may sounds wrong but that is the eBay's strategy to blindly favor its top seller and maximize profit.

I bought a new unlocked cell phone from eBay but the seller sent me a locked AT&T phone. So, I contacted the seller as eBay always suggests to contact the seller first. This is actually eBay's biggest trick. Once you started conversation with the seller, it will be used against you to NOT refund. I started conversation with the seller, seller agreed to refund and also provided with USPS pre-paid return shipping label. I returned back the item using the USPS pre-paid shipping label. USPS tracking showed the return package was delivered but seller denies they received it. I opened case at eBay Buyer Protection hoping eBay will help me but my case was declined by eBay. I have USPS tracking number showing it was delivered but still eBay decided to favor the seller just because the seller is eBay's top rated seller. Top rated seller does not mean seller will never make mistake but from eBay's perspective if the seller is top rated, always favor the seller because its the top rated sellers that is making eBay r7ich. So, I learnt hard way that eBay's Buyer Protection program is in reality a Seller Protection program.

Below is the response from eBay:
eBay Customer Support has reviewed the case and made a final decision. We've considered the case carefully and decided not to issue you a refund. We're sorry this didn't work out.

What the hell is this response? I paid the full amount, seller agreed refund, I returned back the item using seller prepaid shipping label, it was delivered successfully but just because seller declined the receipt of the package, eBay decided to favor their top seller.

Warning: Buyers, buy at eBay at your own risk. Do not feel comfortable buying at eBay just because it says protected by eBay Buyer Protection Program. eBay Buyer Protection program in reality is Seller Protection program and to maximize profit.

Ebay sucks for sellers

Ebay will not protect sellers I was just burned by a woman who apparently does know how to use the system she received a very high dollar cosmetic item she used it she decided to call fake, I proved it was not and she still won, a low life scum bag who bilks people is more protected by ebay than any honest seller. She continuously lied after ruining my item which is now useless this was over 100.00 ticket for me. She harassed me I filed every report I could to no avail. she did feedback extortion as well told me to do something to make her feel good or else she would leave feedback to "warn others" I have top rated seller status and ebay did nothing to protect me. I will also close this account after I finish my last sales. screw that, there are other auction and sale sites.

I am writing in regards to the person who said that ebay caters to sellers....boy that is the farthest thing from the truth!!!!  I am a seller and an honest one, over 457 -100% replies but recently ebay burned me with buyer protection and now I am out a piece of jewelry, and $75 that they paid to the buyer!!! I did everything the customer service people told me to do, I filed reports and fraud reports with USPS and all of the above plus told that I WOULD BE covered with seller protection ....wrong I got screwed...and now I am going to close my account because I can no longer do business with a company that lies to its customers...and it appears the customers are only buyers....sorry you had a bad transaction but its just ebay.

You didn't do anything wrong. I think the only thing you did wrong was doing what the scammer wanted you to do. Some sellers know how to use ebays policies to keep them from taking a loss or just right out to screw people. I think ebay should really take a closer look and broaden their claims by including emails and conversations between the sellers and the buyers and they don't. Sometimes its just better to file a claime...escalate it...and follow the instructions.
Ebay is one sided. They have their policies and people know how to rip others off by them.

Not sure if seller address is attached to Paypal

AUTHOR: bkshres - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, September 21, 2012

I am not sure if the address on pre-paid label is attached to seller's paypal account or not. But I think I did whatever I can as a buyer. I am not sure what else could I have done differently? I paid in full, contacted seller as eBay suggested, seller agreed for refund, provided with pre-paid label and USPS confimation shows it was delivered. I just didn't understand what else me as a buyer could have done differently? Why eBay decided on seller's favor when USPS is showing it was delivered to seller.

On top the prepaid label is USPS merchandize label with seller permit number and it also says "POSTAGE WILL BE PAID BY ADDRESSEE" so that means seller should have paid the postage before receiving it else USPS should not have delivered it. It was suppose to be simple return but seller denied and ebay supported seller blindly. It was completely unfair and bias decision.

That's a little weird

In your report you said that the seller provided a prepaid return shipping label but I'm wondering if he sent you a label with his address but to an address thats not linked to his paypal info. That way he can still say that he didnt receive it and its a win situation for him. He gets to keep your phone and use ebays policies to his favor. Thats the only thing I can think of.
