I read the complaint on this site chiding buyers for abuse of Ebay sellers. Well, I have the exact opposite scenario to share with the public, sellers trying to hide behind Ebay policies to sell crap to buyers, most of whom do not know the ropes and just accept their lot. When one like me comes along and actually does something about it, spending countless hours of personal time in doing so, then Ebay investigates THEM as the perpetrator. I kid you not.
Over the last 18-24 months I estimate I have bought a few thousand dollars in merch on Ebay, most of it in the vintage stereo and record areas. It is my hobby and I do enjoy playing old vinyl on old stereo equipment, mostly buying receivers, turntables and speakers. Also have bought over 800 record albums as well.
Today I had to call Ebay again(at least now you can call them) and spent over 30 minutes on the latest issue I am having which is an arbitrary removal of feedback I have left for sellers. This and only this is how I found out I was the one being investigated for "buying issues". Say what?
I looked back at the Ebay resolution center at cases I had to file or that were opened in last 12 months on my account. They were 32. Yes 32. Some of these were small things like cancel of sale on one end or the other due to unforseen issues but most were for crap merchandise sellers sent out as completely working items except that when they came in they were NOT as advertised for any number of reasons.
HERE IS ONE OF THE LAST ONES I FILED ON
SELLER: stever1242
"Vintage Sherwood ST-880 turntable with manual.....works and sounds good.....comes with manual.....has scratches on lid..missing 45 adapter..audio technics stylus and cartridge...Thanks For looking..Check out my other items!
Shipping Usps parcel Post to United States Only
Pay pal Only
NO Returns"
So, I bought this Sherwood, works and sounds good and it came in the belt in a plastic ziploc bag severed so it was no usable. No way this happened in shipping so seller knowingly sent me an item that DID NOT work and would cost me more money to rectify. (This has happened to me on turntable at least 10X, I kid you not). So, I emailed seller and told him I had received an item that was not as advertised and that I had sourced a belt for it for $15 so if he could refund that amount I would get the table going. He refused and told me to ship back and this is where the sellers know the deal and scam buyers into keeping crap. Ship it back means at BUYERS own cost. Yep, that is official Ebay policy. Why would I do that? I would get a refund onlt after spending $15-$20 of my own money that I would never see again. No turntable and less $20. Sweet gig for anyone who can get away with it.
Of course I refused and again, opened up a case for resolution. Ebay came back with seller proposal of the same, ship back and get a refund, which I again refused and escalated the case for binding arbitration from Ebay. They ruled in my favor and I received a full refund of purchase price and shipping. Asked the seller if he wanted item back to send me call tag or $$ to ship. Left feedback for the transaction and seller whined and had it removed. In a great karma if there ever was one moment he has now received more less than stellar feedback to document his poor selling habits.
Then I began to notice feedback I left disappearing all over the place, including some positive feedback recently left for a seller even though they were molasses slow in shipping and frankly, a bit rude. That is why I called only to find out I was the one being investigated by Ebay.
So, I am done with them and will be dropping off the site as soon as the few items left hanging are done. It is ridiculous they have so many sellers who prey on unsuspecting buyers and the ones who call them on it get "investigated" likely because they are cuasing Ebay too much actual work. Not to worry Ebay. Soon there will be no work caused by me OR no more $$ spent in your forum.

And the seller knows it. He has no idea of my dealings and how many scammers there are in EBay. So what if he might be one of the only ones close to ethical.
No matter WHO sets the policy, if an item is supposed to work flawlessly or some other flowery description and comes in not close, then the seller should pay all costs to return and refund. Period.
And don't even get me started on EBay Motors, a den of thieves in many many cases.
Bottom line, sellers figure out the game, scam and try to get away with it and I am one who does not allow it, fall for it or accept it. Period.
And I am a BUYER with over 900 Feedback. When 1 out of 2 auctions is an issue it seems, then action is warranted.

..but I will address a couple that stand out....
Oh and first let me state for the record I do not work for eBay. They do not respond to reports on this website as far as I have ever noticed.
Okay first...it is not ebay's "policy" that buyers must pay return shiping on merchadise. It is up to the SELLER to decide their return policy and the seller must post this in the auctions. So it is up to the BUYER to decide if they want to purchase from that buyer and risk paying for return shipping if they ever want to return something from a buyer who posts they do not pay for return shipping...total freedom of choice of the BUYER. Granted if there is a dispute..eBay may decide to deduct the shipping costs as well from the seller if the seller loses the dispute...or, the seller in some cases may decide to pay return shipping for many reasons..could be to avoid a negative feedback, or they simply feel it is ethical in that particular case..or they just want to get a lunatic off their back so it is worth the financial loss.
Secondly...you mention the seller "stever1242"...
So I looked up this seller ebay stats...
Member since Jan-11-06
1065 transactions
99.8% positive feedback score
1 negative in the past 12 months which was posted Feb-21-12 (hmm.. about a week ago.
The negative feedback was this..
Time clock was broken and not mentioned as broke!!Buyer: salerno_mike630 ( 13) Feb-21-12 23:38
And the seller responded...
Reply by stever1242 (Feb-23-12 04:53):
Buyer stated that it was not keeping time..offered to return...never heard back Acroprint 150ar3 time recorder used (#320825891416)
So can you understand how this report seems a bit suspect to say the least to anyone who is even the least bit rational ?????
