When I received an ad for ediets, it sounded interesting and since it was advertised as a free service, I applied.

I did receive a diet plan and a grocery list but I had no idea that it was going to cost me $45. This was not stated in the literature. Subsequently, when I received my next Discover bill, I noticed that they were now charging me $15 per month. I cancelled the newsletter which I thought they were charging me for. I have tried in vain to find out where they are and who they are to cancel my service.

I am no longer at the same computer station in Florida and have not received anything from them. I am in North Carolina for the summer. This whole mistake costs me $75 so far and I am afraid that they will continue to bill my credit card and I have no way to stop them.

Why can't they be honest and ask for feed back so I could contact them. They seem to want to remain anonymous once they have you hooked. I am hopeful that you can help me locate them so I can put this ugly situation behind me. I have really learned a lasting lesson from all of this. Never trust an online company.

Contested Credit Card Charges

AUTHOR: Bob - ()

POSTED: Monday, September 02, 2002

I'd recommend that you read your credit card agreement carefully. I've yet to see one that doesn't have procedures to protect the consumer on contested charges; in some cases even fight on your behalf in court for illegal charges.

At the first indication of charges you feel were not made by or agreed to by you, you should call your credit card customer service (frequently listed as a toll-free number on the back of your card).

They will evaluate the situation (delaying charges/interest to you) and report back to you; if they find you were at fault, you pay.

I had one situation where a company refused to honor the cancellation policy, I simply called my credit card company explaining the situation and asked that they terminate my existing card number and reissue another card with a different number.

Now the company can bill all they want, but can't get a dime. Always read the small print, unscrupulous businesses thrive on people who don't take the time to read not only their fine print, but the fine print that went along with their credit cards.

The a/ option was the default. You could change it to the other option, but you could not uncheck both of them.
