I rented a car from Enterprise while my car was being repaired. Turned the first car in for a smaller (cheaper) model when it became available. No walk around was done on this second rental.

As soon as I got home I realized there was damage. I called Enterprise, explained the damage, and was told I would not be held responsible and that the damage had already been noted. (I have call logs.)

When I turned the car in the damage was noticed in the return inspection. I explained that I had called and that the girl I had spoken to had assured me that the damage was previously recorded. The person in charge said they would not be billing me for it, even though the damage was not previously recorded as I had been told, and that they would file it with their insurance company.

Just received a bill for $1300 with a letter that states that their "review indicates that you are responsible for the damages to our vehicle".

On the hook

This was my first rental car experience. I guess "I failed" to catch a business scamming me. Lesson learned, I was under the assumption that when you report a problem it gets fixed. Apparently you have to hover over people until they have no choice but to not screw you over. I guess I'll have the next 50 + years to remember that. In the meantime I stand by my claim that this is an unjust and awful way to do business.

Guess Who???

YOU failed to REQUIRE them to do a checkout inspection!  You knew you were on the hook and yet YOU FAILED to do what makes common sense...do an inspection with their representative and be absolutely positive any pre-existing damage was noted on the contract BEFORE you took the car!  Then you discover this damage after the fact and you claim they said they noted it.

How nice of them.  Did you right then and there drive to their location and get them to add the notations and sign them on your contract?  Nope!  Whether or not they went back on their word...you have ZERO CASE as YOU failed to get any signatures or notations of pre-existing damage.  Incredible!

Let me save you the trouble...don't bother mentioning it...I don't work for them.
