On July 8, 2008 I called a few local garage door repair companies, because of their availability and time I chose Garage Door Service Company. The technician arrived at my home, I escorted him to the garage, he immediately quoted me a price for the new spring (which was clearly broken) and labor. 129.00"spring", 149.00 "labor". Since I had called a few places earlier prior to his coming, I knew that one of their competitors was alot cheaper on labor.

I called his manager Eric, I explained to him the big difference in labor, and I told him if he could not meet the copetitors price or lower his price, I was willing to pay the 39.00 trip charge and inform the technician of my decision. Eric then asked if the technician had taken the spring down, I told him "No".

Eric, then asked if he could have the name of the competitor, the person whom I spoke with and their quote? I gave him this information and he asked me to hold the phone for a minute. "All the while his technician has started the work", Eric then returns to the phone and quotes me a price of 225.00 versus the 300.00 quoted by the technician.

I return to the garage where the technician is, he informs me that since I only replaced 1 spring instead of both I am eligible for only a 30 day warranty versus a lifetime warranty, he recommends that I have both replaced, I called Eric back and asked him if I had both replaced, "What would my price be?" Eric, told me if would be 450.00. 225.00*2. Ithen returned to my garage and asked the technician if he could replace both of them, he asked " Do you me to take everything back off?"

I then told him, "not to worry about it but I did want the best warranty available" I then informed him of the price Eric quoted me, he called Eric and yelled at him about "Quoting prices in the field after he had already quoted the customer, Eric then hung up on the technician. The technician then tells me I have to honor his quote not Eric's I told him since Eric is the one who went him out his price is the one I will honor....... Long story short Eric hung up the phone in my face also, and refused to speak to either of us.

I called the police and after a lenghty dispute I wa told to either pay the 300.00 quoted by the technician or goto jail for theft of services...

I now feel that the police as well as the Co. Garage Door Service Co. strong armed me into paying the higher quote after I offered to pay the trip charge and go with the competitor.... Please beware, theis same company has similar complaints all over the country..

I worked for this company for a short time and quit. They stated that my "sales" were not meeting there "quota" and I should "find things wrong" so I can get my numbers up. I thought I was a Tech, not a salesman. They are still operating today under the name "America's Choice". this is just one of many names they use. They have been on dateline at least once getting caught doing illegal practices. The tech that was caught eventually quit and formed his own company: "America's Best Garage Door Service". Be very careful when dealing with these companies and others like them. They are dishonest, misleading and non-professional. Make sure you ask alot of specific questions.Typical example: "Free Service Calls" - but what's written in the fine print is that you must have work done in order to avoid a service call fee. So they can come to your home - give you an outrageous quote - and when you say no they demand the Service Fee which you thought was free. Do your research!
