On 8/28/07, I was on the road when a sales person from Great Cars and Trucks called me to sell me advertising for a truck that I had listed in the Truck Trader Magazine and on Craigslist. If she told me her name, I don't remember it.
She told me how her average sale is 3-4 days and that she already had many buyers interested in my truck and to be prepared for many phone calls within the first day. I explained that I had already paid for advertising with Tuck Trader and I had been getting calls from interested parties already.
She told me that they would refund my money if they didnt sell my truck within 90 days. I asked the sales woman for more detailed information about their guarantee. Specifically I asked her since I had already paid for advertising with Truck Trader if I did sell my truck from any other source would they refund my money? She assured me that they definitely would give me my money back if they were not the company that brought me the buyer.
I gave her my billing information, email address and credit card information and told her to email me the guarantee before charging my credit card.
When I got to my office and reviewed the guarantee (only 3 hours later) it was not as she stated on the phone. I immediately sent a reply email to them and told them I did not want to advertise with them due to the misrepresentation of their guarantee and misleading statements by their phone salesperson.
I did not hear back from them nor did they reply to my email. I called and talked to Eugene (who is the person that sent me the email). I asked him why he didn't respond to my email about not running my ad's and why they charged my credit card when I told the sales woman not to until I had an opportunity to review their written guarantee.
He informed me that he never read my email but he would look into it. He also gave me a phone number for the main office and told me if I called them they would do a reversal of the charges.
I clled the number and talked to Chris. I explained my situation and he told me that i must have misunderstood the guarantee. I told him there is no way it was misunderstood since I asked the sales woman several times to make sure I understood that I would get my money back if I sold my trucks through another form of advertising.
I went on to explain that as soon as I returned to my office and checked my email, I read the attached guarantee and the 2 attached receipts and fired off a reply telling them not to run my ad. I was upset to find that she had already run my card for both trucks even though she told me she would not untill I got back to them after reading the written guarantee.
Chris asked me to send him my reply email and he would get back to me. He asked me to keep the advertising with them and see if they could sell the trucks for me. I told him no, I do not want to do business with a company that hires dishonest sales people and I wanted a reversal of the charges or I would file a dispute with my cresit card company. He told me "don't bother sending me the email then if you are going to dispute the charges anyway.
I guess I have nobody to blame but myself for trusting a phone sales person. I just assumed that she would be true to her word and give me the opportunity to review the written guarantee.
It is unfortunate that companies like this are still in business.

I hope that your credit card company has excellent customer service...Great Cars and Trucks will respond back to your credit card company as they did with me after you initiate a dispute and likely give an excuse for denying the refund...most likely they will say that you haven't fulfilled the requirements of the money back guarantee posted on their website...and unfortunately your credit card company will probably agree with them...yes I know it's unfair that you are bound by the terms on their website even though they weren't disclosed to you and the transaction was made over the phone and not on their website.
I got my money back after I complained to the Better Business Bureau about my credit card company and their decision not to issue a chargeback...my credit card company issued a courtesy credit to my account thanks to the BBB...still I feel bad that the credit card company forfeited the money and Great Cars and Trucks is still $160 richer.
