I rented a car with Hertz in San Francisco a month ago.  To say it was a horrible experience would be kind, it was outrageously horrible.  First they had a line in the center that took 3 hours to navigate to the counter.  Not exaggerating.   3 hours,  The agent that took us was a "Trainee" adding insult to injury.  We asked what was going on that they were so backed up and he advised that "it's like this every day here"   They had four agents total on the counter and hundreds - literally hundreds of people in the line.   Just outrageous abuse of a customer!

To make matters worse, I rec'd my AmEx statement today and found a charge for $30.75 from "PlatePass - Scottsdale AZ"   I called and advised that I had never been to Scottsdale AZ and this was an invalid charge, but was told that this is a toll charge for the Golden Gate bridge.  OK, yes I did cross the Golden Gate bridge one time but $30?   The PlatePass agent advised that Hertz charges $4.95/day administrative fee for PlatePass every day you have the car if you pass a toll reader on any day or hour that you have that car and that they charge that administrative fee for the entire rental period.  So a $6 toll had a $25 administrative fee and you cannot avoid this unless you pedal a bike across the bridge.

This is an outrageous abuse of the consuber.  Hertz is getting a kick-back (return of revenue) from PlatePass and Hertz sets the policy.  The fine print in the rental agreement is the key to the rip off that Hertz is doing.

Never, never never rent from Hertz in any city and particularly San Francisco if you don't want to be subjected to this type of outrageous abuse.   I can't beleive that nobody has a class action lawsuit on this but I'm all in if they file one.

Hertz is horrible!  Rip off artists of the highest order and lousy customer service on their best day.   I will never ever rent from them again and will walk barefoot through snow wherever I need to go before taking a Hertz car ever again.  Just outrageous.
