DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ! They are complete scam artists. I rented a car for 2 days, and was told the charge would be $56.45. I know that most car rentals put a hold on your account for incidentals, so I asked the man working that day what that hold would be. He told me it would be $200 and would be removed as soon as my car was turned and as long as it was on time. I returned the car 2 hours early, but no one was in the office, instead there was a note on the door that said to drop the keys and the mileage slip in an express drop box. I filled out the information and dropped it with the keys into the box. It has been 3 days, and I have been charged an additional $300 for the car, $100 for each day AFTER it was returned. I tried to call the location I rented from and have received no answer or call back. I stopped by the location and again that same sign was on the door. I called customer service and the lady told me that the holds were there because my return was just being processed today, 3 days after I returned the vehicle. I asked her why and she could not give me an answer. She then told me that it would take up to 7 days for the hold to be released. 7 DAYS! I’ve rented from other rental companies like ENTERPRISE and the holds were immediately refunded to me the day I returned the car. I was never charged any addition holds either. Hertz needs to get it together. Taking $500 from someone and keeping it for up to 10 days after they have rented a car when the rental was a messily $56.45 to begin with is outright ridiculous and unfair. They are holding onto my money to make some sort of capital gain and getting away with it through silly loopholes. I could deal with $100 maybe even $200 but $500 is CRAZY. DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ unless you are prepared to have a large sum of money held from your bank account for at least 10 days. There are better companies out there, HERTZ IS NOT ONE OF THEM.
