HSBC AUTO FINANCE Ripoff Paid off but, where is my title? San Diego California

Where is my title? We have had such problems with Hsbc(household auto finance) so we decided that we needed to get them paid off. We bought our Dodge 3500 in November of 2003, we had high interest but, understand due to circumstances. We have had nothing but problems with them. They didnt apply the payments correctly all the time, 3x's to be exact. We hit a hard spot due to illness in November of this year. My truck fell behind and I did call them to let them know and see if I could defer one month. Of course they wouldnt do that. They called me everyday and then started bothering my husband at work. So, we refinanced our house, and we paid of the truck $26715.47. I had called them and Chase Mtg called them for a payoff. I sent the check out over night on the 15th of December. They recieved the check on the 16th at 11:02 amd Robin signed for it. I called to see about what would take place now and they said that they didnt know where the check was. I called everyday, sometimes twice a day to see if they had paid off the acct. On December 20th my truck went into default. I called and talked to a supervisor, believe me that is like pulling hair. We I had to pay another $ 65.55 because they gave me the wrong payoff amt. So today is Jan. 16,2005 and still I havent recieved the title. I have called everyday and today on the 3rd call to them, they let me know that on the 3rd of Jan. the title was issued and they didnt mail it out until the 10-12th. By law, I am told that they were to have it to us within 10 days. So outcome, we have another 20 years added onto out mortgage, our son will not be going to college right away, and I am showing late on the credit bureau, and no title. The customer service people are very rude, talk about stupidity!!!!
Please help! What can else can I do. BBB is no help...
