I'm posting this after reading a nearly identical complaint posted here:

My story: A colleague had originally registered our domain under their name with godaddy.com and later had overlooked the notice to renew after they were no longer working with us. I attempted to transfer and renew the domain but the godaddy.com site indicated it was expired pending renewal but I could instead "bid" for it (which given the circumstances, I did for $1) and was subsequently declined.

After emailing godaddy.com and explaining my situation it took a week for them to understand my request and respond and then advised the original owner needed to initiate the transfer of ownership to me instead of me bidding for it.

I contacted my former colleague who finally was able to talk to godaddy.com but was then told it was now "locked" for the next 8 weeks and that nothing could be done until then. They told him that after 8 weeks I could just claim it as a new domain for their usual low price.

6 weeks went by and I thought I would check the status on godaddy.com and... you guessed it - it was no longer available but registered to Andrew Reberry and owned by hugedomains.com who now wanted around $1600 for it!!

Despite being told by godaddy.com that I had to wait 8 weeks for it to become available again, hugedomains.com was somehow able to register it well before that.

I smell a rat... I suspect there is some collusion between godaddy and hugedomains.com...
