The price of the "award" or "incentive" cruise is full price. Actually, the cruise we selected costs $28 less if booked directly through Carnival. 7-day Eastern Caribbean from Miami on January 19, 2013 double occupancy. $1283 using our "Incentive Award Certificate" that we had to jump through hoops for, or $1255 booked through Carnival Cruise Lines website.

Do a critical read of the letters, flyers, and any other written communication. It does not say anywhere that the cruise is free or discounted or that the "award" has any monetary value at all. This is something that I found out when we were finally contacted by phone to book the date and port. When she told me the cost, I told her that I understood the cost of the cruise would be covered by the certificate and I would only be financially responsible for the taxes and port fees. She tried talking around it for awhile but finally said, "The cruise isn't free."

I read the paperwork again. Sure enough, it entitles you to a cruise - not a free cruise.

I read all the blogs about how they try at every stage to render the award invalid. I followed all advise and sent everything certified mail, included the pre-addressed stamped 6X9 envelope when required, and met all deadlines. All this only to find out that the only benefit I would get from booking the cruise with them would be that I could recoup my $100 deposit. $100 isn't worth the risk of booking through this unscrupulous company. Who knows what would happen if I gave them my credit card number!

Second response to Ann regarding cruise

AUTHOR: Tami - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, October 02, 2012

Dear Ann,

Thank you for providing your customer number and one of our reservation agents will be contacting you shortly.  It seems that there is a misunderstanding because the information that was sent over to you previously did not state the $1283 as you mentioned above. It was actually quite a bit less and much less than the $1255 that you stated you could get the cruise for on your own.

Our intentions here at Infinity Incentive Group are to accommodate our customers request as best we can, although we know that our certificates do not work for everyone. Again, thank you for the opportunity to assist you and I am quite sure that we can come to a resolution quickly.

Your printed material implies that the cruise is free and the traveler has only to pay the port fees and taxes (approximately $300) plus any elected upgrades. Please answer a clear yes or no. Is the cruise itself free?

The Terms and Conditions page states that Preferred travel dates must be in chronological order and be at least 30 days apart. and that During high season holiday and peak travel periods a surcharge will apply, when available.  In lieu of more specific guidance, I went to the Carnival Cruise website and chose the three lowest priced dates for the Eastern Caribbean 7-day cruise from Miami to the same ports as offered in your brochure.  19 January 2013 was one of those 3 dates.  Why is it that once the award is applied, your price is still more than the price for the exact cruise booked on wwww.carnival.com?

I have read about your customer service phone line on otherposts, and will not subject myself to that. If you can send me on a 7-day Eastern Caribbean cruise for a cost to me of $300ish per person, on any date, contact me. My Perfect Select Rewards PIN is 476885.

Dear Ann,

The date that you selected is during a holiday time frame and, although it is outside the Terms and Conditions, it does qualify you for discounted travel.  Request for travel outside of what is allowed in the Terms and Conditions may result in additional fees and/or surcharges added to the required fees.  For selections that are made outside of what is allowable, we acknowledge your preferred dates of travel and calculate your travel quote accordingly.  Our reservation agents are committed to finding the best possible accommodations for our customers travel requests.  Our agents also ensure that all of the customers travel needs are taken into account, and that all details of what may be necessary for the trip are considered in their entirety.

We do have certain required procedures in our process that assist us in servicing our many customers in a timely and efficient fashion.  We do realize though that our certificates may not work for everyone and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that may have been caused.

We do not have enough information from what has been posted to find your account electronically and would like the opportunity to speak to you about your travel requests and the possibility of working to come to an agreeable solution.  Please feel free to call the customer service line Monday through Friday between 8AM and 4:30PM Mountain Standard Time.   Thank you.
