I took the liberty to alter the complaint review from Beth, Report #844070 as my experience with Infinity Incentive Group is nearly a perfect mirror of the unfortunate experience which she had.  My "PIN # with IIG is ***240.

I received a mailing from Perfect Select Rewards, went to a presentation and received the promotional "gift certificate" that stated we had been "awarded" a 7-day cruise with airfare for 2 adults.  I sent in the requested amount, $598, which was "to be applied towards taxes and fees." This included an outside cabin.  We made our date and cruise selections and waited to hear back.

Our first date selection we were told was unavailable, so we finally received word from them via email, that our second date was available. The following is the email I received from IIG regarding the cruise:

Thank you for your interest and participation in our promotional travel offer. It is our goal to provide you with quality customer service and provide you with travel arrangements that are best matched to your preferred travel dates.  This "Tentative Online Itinerary" serves only as a price guide as all prices are subject to availability and prevailing rates at the time of Confirmation & Payment.  Due to high call volume, for your convenience the best method of communication with me is through email.

On the event you have chosen a travel date that is considered a holiday, peak season, or heavy traveled time frame, as a courtesy we have quoted additional fees if they apply, rather than send you a another Travel Request Form to select new dates.  You will need to reply to by February 22nd whether you are accepting this offer, otherwise your certificate will be automatically put on hold. (Please be advised these travel quotes are time sensitive and are on a first come first serve basis)  Required information to accept this offer must be faxed back by due date above.  1. See Attached Credit Card Authorization Form  Per an earlier conversation & the terms and conditions of your certificate the following are the details of your requested trip.

You are responsible for any Agency service fee, port fees / government fees & taxes above and beyond your deposit that might apply.  Fees not covered in the terms and conditions of the certificate may or may not include a peak season fees, cabin upgrade, ship / itinerary upgrade, extra guests, travel insurance, gratuities & holiday fees. (Holiday is defined as one full week before, during, and after any major holiday)  Please be advised this trip does  include airfare from Denver International Airport. Voyage Information  Ship:  CARNIVAL SPLENDOR  Destination:  Mexican Riviera  Departure Port: Los Angeles/Long Beach  Transportation Mode:  CRUISEDayPort of Call Arrival Time Depart Time May 20, 2012, Itineraries are subject to change at any time without notice. Inside Stateroom (1A) Upper/Lower Berth

I replied to Kelly that this was a completely outlandish amount of money to pay for a "complimentary cruise offer" AND as an inside stateroom upper/lower berth stateroom with Bunk Style beds.  In doing research I was able to determine  the total cost that IIG wants me to pay is more than I would pay if I went on Carnival's website and booked the exact same cruise, same ship, same dates, same cabin type, and booked airfare.

I requested from Kelly a breakdown of the fees being charged, but she replied, " I do not get an itemized breakdown for contractual reason with the cruise line."  She continued to argue with me that the rate that we were being charged was still a savings had I booked this myself.  When I had asked to speak to a supervisor I was told that there was none available and that if I would like a refund I should send a written request which I had done on February 16, 2012 and that I could expect a refund in approximately 8 weeks.  When asked why I would need to wait so long when I adhered to all of their short deadlines, I was told that is the company policy.  I am now quite concerned that my $598 will not be refunded and all of the additional costs involved in sending certified correspondence to IIG.

There is absolutely no way I will book this cruise through IIG.  Clearly this is a rip-off, and I will be requesting my money back through the clause on the certificate that states:  "You may also cancel this contract if accommodations or facilities are not available pursuant to a request for use as provided in the contract."  Since the above email states that an inside stateroom upper/lower berth is not available, then we should have no trouble receiving a refund of the $598 we have sent via money order.

I would also like to note that Carnival Cruise Lines and United Airlines are both named in the initial post card that I had received advising me of my "complimentary" 7 day cruise.  Both these companies should be notified that IIG has been using their name for their promotions.  If this was done with their permission then they should be classified as SCAMS as well.  I would you hope that you can expedite payment and I thank your for your assistance in what has been a terrible experience.

Clarification

Dear Sirs,

Based on your report, I noticed that your requested date for cruse trave was in May from Los Angeles.  This is the definition of peak season as is listed in the terms and conditions, it is also why we request 3 different dates and suggest different ports too.  We appologize that you did not want to look at your other requests.  I noticed as well that you requested a refund and complained about being notified that it could take 6 to 8 weeks to receive.  Please note that this is a standard response as provided by our accounting department to ensure expectations are met.  If you have not received your deposit, please call us at 8668778050.

Similar issues with definate discrepancies from company.

So I got the same offer for an "award" of an 8 day and 7 night Carnical Cruise for 2.  And if I responded in 72 hours I would also receive roundtrip airfare for 2 adults.  I am typing this straight from the first voucher recieved.

I called on this knowing it said I would pay port charges and taxes, but you do on any prize you are awarded.  I just wanted to get the details.

I found out that if I booked myself to seminar from Initity Travel, a new travel company coming to my area, that night I could get this other voucher for a cruise as stated and free airfare.  I even asked, "I can use that on the cruise?" I was told yes.  However, I needed to qualify for the seminar.  (Crredit card, married, and made a certain annual salary - qualified me.)

More details were given and I was told that it was a way to promote travel agencies vs online bookings like expedia.

So I get to the seminar with my spouse and we find out the descrepancies. 1st - It's a discount travel club.  Not a travel agent.  (So like a time share.)  I couldn't afford it and really the pressure was there, but it wasn't too bad.  It was even a little entertaining at times.

After the seminar and declining the offer we got taken back to sign for our travel voucher through another company.  Now we find out we have to registar in 30 days, but pay nothing until we chose our trip.  And encouraged to, "make them pay for it, we shouldn't forget about it, it's a great trip."

So I register and they want 3 dates for a trip on a cruiseline that could be up to 7 days and airfare for up to 7 nights.  That would make discrepancy 2, 3, and 4.  It's 2) Not Carnival like on first voucher, 3) 7 days not 8, and 4) 7 nights would be 6 days so I can't use the airfare on the cruise.  I confirmed number 4 when I called to ask about these issues I found.

To say the least, the people at Travel Select Rewards were less than compasionate to the descrepanies. But how can I blame them, they just sell these vouchers to Infinity trust they reperesented it correctly.  So I called Infinity back.

Now I talk to an operator named Michelle on 4/1/14.  She appologises for me not getting what was stated and says she will esculate my issue and get back to me.  I should hear from a 602 area code today, but if not in the next couple days.

It is a week later (not two days = to a couple) and I have heard nothing.

I have a cruise picked out for 3 different dates and I will pay the taxes and port charges (I know what they should be), I would like my cruise with airfare as promised for sitting through that presentation as I promised from the company that said they registered my presence at the seminar with the Attorney General.

PS...  I did recall one more discrepancy...  I was told the seminar was through Infiity Travel but once there the name changed to Superior Travel.

Janet only proves that the deception is intentional

Merriam Webster defines award as: to give a reward or prize.

The term award is used so weather or not the word free is used it is implied and expected. That is the point these are designed to make people think they have one something.

Thank goodness for rippoff report. It was designed just for people like Janet and infinity travel are trying to ripp people off. It even says Carnival Cruise check looks like a check and has a check number on it. Only dishonest people send out a check with a check number on it and then in find print say it's not a check.

Evil people suck.

Written request had been sent on 2/13/12

AUTHOR: Chester - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 06, 2012

A written request for a refund had been sent certified mail on February 13, 2012 and received by your company on February 16.   When I called to follow up on my letter I was told there would be a 8 week wait for a refund.  When your company requests tight deadlines otherwise trip reservations are in jeopardy or refunds lost, why should there be an 8 week wait period to receive the money back?  It seems as if the need to expedite things are put on the consumer with none on your company.  If you check my pin #276240 you will see that a refund request has been sent.  You have now been holding my payment since September 16, 2011 and have not delivered on your promise.  Please expedite this payment!

Response March 06, 2012

The promotional offer that you refer to in your complaint, is an incentive product that we market to companies that use them as an incentive to get you to participate in an informative presentation about their travel club or other type of business. When you receive our promotional offer, the terms and conditions are printed on the back. It clearly states that there are fees that you are responsible for (i.e. taxes, ticketing fee, peak season, weekend or holiday fees, if they apply). This is not a FREE trip and nowhere on our certificate does it state that it is a FREE trip. It is important to note that we are in no way affiliated with the company you received the promotional offer from, their selling practices or marketing efforts. We have not promised anything other than what is outlined in the terms of the offer received and acceptance of the terms is required to participate in the offer.

In response to your concern regarding the break down of total charges, Infinity Incentives Travel Certificates combine special rates that we receive from our air, hotel, cruise, tour and car suppliers for package inclusions. Our agreements with such suppliers prohibit us from breaking down the prices for the individual components.

The promotional offer is valid for a 7-day cruise for two adults (double occupancy required) in low season. Accommodations are for an entry-level stateroom and two round trip coach airfares. When traveling within the terms of the offer your deposit is applied towards service fees, governmental taxes and airline taxes for airfare and governmental taxes, port taxes and services fees for cruise; as long as these fees do not exceed your deposit and there are no upgrades you would not pay any additional cost. Once you choose to upgrade by selecting travel and/or accommodations outside the terms of the offer we are only able to save you money compared to what you would be able to book the cruise and air for on your own through the Carnival Cruise Lines.

If you have any additional questions or comments, please don't hesitate to contact our Customer Service Department at 866-653-2139. Our representatives would be happy to assist you. If you still wish to be refunded your deposit, Please follow instructions below for requesting a refund. Send in a letter, include your pin number. Refunds are processed in the order they are received and may take up to 8 weeks. Please submit in writing and mail certified to: INFINITY INCENTIVE GROUP ATTN REFUND DEPARTMENT PO Box 3479 Lake Havasu City, AZ 86405. Please include a note with your pin number and your name Chester.

Sincerely,

Janet Meadows
