Jennifer Convertibles Poor workmanship, after 19 months the back of the couch detached from the arms. The company refuses to repair manufacture defects over one year!! This couch cost $1950.72. New York New York

At the end of November 2005 I purchased a leather convertible couch from Jennifer Convertibles. The back was cut to deliver it up the narrow stair. In June of 2007 the back broke. I assumed it was due to the way it was put back together but no it is due to poor workmanship. The back has come apart from the arms because they were never properly attached. I contacted customer service by email. Here is the first reply,

Unfortunately, you are no longer covered for this issue. This would be considered a manufactures defect in which we do not cover after a period of one year. I can refer you to a private service company if you would like.

And after explaining that I thought any company should stand behind their product for more than a year, the second response,

Unfortunately, I will not assign a service company to service you. I had already informed you that you are no longer covered under the warranty. I do apologize for the inconvenience but do thank you for contacting Jennifer Convertibles.

I cannot believe that Jennifer Convertibles does not stand behind its product! For a relatively new couch to come apart, obviously due to poor craftsmanship and the maker not to honor its product....

For over 33 years, with stores from coast to coast, Jennifer has been striving to offer our consumer the best value in Home Furnishings.

This line is from your web site. I would say this is clearly not my experience.

I would like a number of a manager or your supervisor to speak with. This is unacceptable. Jennifer is supposed to be good quality, made to last at least a few years!

And of course I was given the same line from the supervisor with no effort to correct the problem except at my expense. I am outraged at having spent so much money on such poor quality. I am however not surprised at the lack of responsibility to the consumer. It appears to be an ongoing trend with many products. Nothing is made to last but I have not come across such shamelessness as this. I think spending $1950.72 for a couch that lasted 19 months is an outrage. Not to mention that after it was delivered the delivery people failed to notice that they had not attached the frame of the bed and had to be called back after I tried to pull out the bed! Jennifer Convertibles does not stand behind their product at all outside of the one year. They say what they need to make the sale with no regard to the customer. I read all the reviews, thought they had changed their practices but NO they have only thrown their money at the advertising. This is definitely a BUYER BEWARE, they are not to be trusted, and they don't care. I have never been so disappointed. Of course I will not give their repair person my business! The fact that they have recommendations of repair people for their products shows they clearly have no intention of serving their clients.

BUYER BEWARE! This is definitely the worst of the worst.
