Based on reviews by Consumer Reports, we had the misfortune of purchasing a John Deere LA115 at Lowes.  Do not buy this product or any John Deere!!  As reported to the company, the mower deck welds have now come loose after very little use over 4 years so the mower is useless.  Of course, they told me that this piece of crap is out of warranty and there is nothing they can do.

This mower claims to be 19 HP, yet it barely can make it up a hill.  We later found out via a lawyer that there was a lawsuit settlement based on false horsepower claims by Briggs and Stratton, John Deere, and other companies regarding the engines used in these mowers.  We were able to file a claim, but only ended up receiving $22, which will not even buy a set of mower blades!

As mentioned to the company when I first bought the mower, the deck does not return to the same position when raising and lowering the height adjustment arm.  This results in an uneven cut and makes leveling the deck very difficult (I use method A in the manual with wooden blocks cut to 2 inches).

As I mentioned to the company a year ago, the wheels on this mower are towed out to the point where the mower cannot even travel in a straight line.  I had to replace the tie rods on the steering a year ago, as wheel alignment cannot be adjusted on this unit.  John Deere has since replaced these rods with adjustable ones (go figure) in its newer pieces of crap.

The battery that came with the unit in May 2009 was completely dead after three years.  OK, this may occur from time to time, but when I examined what battery was supposed to be installed per the manual and its CCA, it did not match at all!  What was installed was one of much lower CCAs.  I again called John Deere regarding this, but they did not care.

After only two years, the tread on the front wheels were almost gone, most probably due to the misalignment from the factory.

The bottom line is that John Deere not only produces one of the most inferior products (should have bought a (((competitor's name redacted))), as my handmower has lasted twenty years), but they simply do not care about customer service.
