In the past two weeks, I have had 4 of my 5 bridesmaids pay for their dresses for my wedding. One just paid for hers on Saturday. Then, on Wednesday, they closed their doors and reported that they are filing bankruptcy. So, they have our money and the dresses have not been ordered yet (and won't be).

I called Alfred Angelo to see if they could help. Their manager is working on the Kaufman's problems and are trying to help everyone they can. The only bright side is three of the purchases were on credit cards which we are now disputing (you have 60 days from your statement date).

We are filing claims with the Bureau of Consumer Protection which is taking action against Kaufman's. Also, we are filing bankruptcy claim forms. I have no idea how there employees can work for such a care less type of company. They should be ashamed of themselves. But, obviously, not. You can't tell me they didn't have any idea that this was coming. And, they kept telling me to make sure my girls come in by the 8th. Yah, so they can take their money.

I feel terrible for the girls that are getting married soon. This is not a small problem. I thought Kaufman's would be ok to deal with because they have been in business so long. Obviously, I was wrong. Contact the attorney general. There is some good advice on the attorney general of PA's site. So tonight, I now must start over. I am glad though that I am in an ok position not like others who are stuck with no attire for their weddings. Something needs to be done! Good luck to those girls!

Chargeback not always limited to 60 days

AUTHOR: Amy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, September 09, 2004

I am in the process of having my girls file for chargebacks for their BM dresses. We placed the order for some of them back in March and others not until June. I paid for one of my BM's dresses in March and called my CC company to file a chargeback at the end of August. The CSR told me that most will allow up to 6 months not just 60 days so even if you think it might be too late to try to file a chargeback, try anyway! Unfortunately, my MOH used a debit card and they are being firm about the 60 days.
