In Nov. of 2011, I used livecareer.com to build a resume. The ad said build a resume for free, so I did. It let me build a resume that was free but when I went to download it, a window popped up telling me that I had to pay $3.95 in order to download it, ok I get it now, to build it was free and that is how they suck you in so you would pay the $3.95 so you wouldn't have to spend hours to re-build it. Ok, I can afford $3.95 so that I would not have to go somewhere else and spend the hours that I spent on creating this one. The $3.95 allowed me access to the resume for 7 days.
I logged onto my bank today and found a charge for $34.95 (Jan. 2013) and as I looked I was also billed $34.95 in Dec. 2012. I called my bank and they were willing to file a dispute but recommended that I contact the company first to see if they would issue a credit. My bank gave me their phone number so I called them. I got some lady named Dior that was not over friendly but rather curt. I explained to her what I thought I was paying for to which she informed me that I did not cancel my subscription so they billed me a monthly fee. I told her that I had no knowledge that I was signing up for a subscription at the rate of $34.95 a month. She told me that I did not cancel my subscription is why they were billing me and that they do not generally issue credits but there are some circumstances in which they do. She processed the cancellation and did tell me that they were going to issue me a credit for the two months that I was billed. So now I will know in a few days if they did indeed give me a credit for that.
Basically she told me that I was welcome to log on to the site to read where it said that a monthly fee would be charged for a subscription well, I have been back and still don't see it. They should have to be made to put that in large lettering so that all consumers know that their service is a subscription and they need to cancel it within the access time or they would be charged. It is important to get the word out that this company is making tons of money on consumers that have no clue that they are being dupped into a subscription. The site is helpful in building the resume but if consumers know then they can cancel before being billed for additional services.

LiveCareer,
To consumers who use this service make that you have fraud alert on your accounts so that you will be informed of transactions that you did not authorize. I too was charged the $34.97 after paying 85.00 for resume writing and $40.00 for cover letter writing which I am still waiting on. I can see from the complaint which just happen in January of 20136 and my complaint just happen in February of 2013. This company may need to be reported to the better business bureau since they may not be legal. I notice this an ongoing patter for this company, maybe that is why my bank contacted me because they probably are fraudulent. I hope this helps other consumers. Thanks
