Merchants Credit Guide CompanyMerchants Credit Guide Company Sent a letter to me stating that I owed them money through AT&T Ripoff Chicago Illinois

Received a letter on 7-27-07 stating that I owed them a balance of $49.77. They stated that the claim was put aginst me by AT&T and that I could pay off the settlement at a discount of $37.33 to keep this from going any further.

I have been a customer of AT&T for 15 years and there is no balance owed to them. If money was owed, I would have had my service cancelled. This angered me and I researched the company on the web. The first link I found to Merchants Guide Credit Co., was a link asking to inquire if you had been a victim of fraud with them. It angers me to knw that any business can say that you owe a balance to them and people actually had paid the monies to them. Apparently they try to say that different people owe different amounts of money, from companies that they never had an account with.
They only offer contact by phone and you can send the payment to them or pay it online at www.paymybill.com. There is not email address offered and no fax number given on the letter. I feel that this company is defrauding many people and should be prosecuted for just that. If all of these cases are on file against them, how can they still be allowed to function as a business??They need to be investigated further. Luckily I am not elderly or someone that scares easily or I could have fallen for the scam.
