Meritline Complete Liars and ripoff artists California

What an operation! They advertised a certain brand of DVD burner, which they said came with this software package FREE as part of the price. When I got it, the software was a much cheaper version by the same publisher. Different name, different capabilities, costing maybe $50 off the shelf, not the $350 plus software advertised.

I called the company, and was transferred to someone saying he was the owner. I said the software I received wasn't the advertised title. He assured me it was just as good and did everything the $350 software did. That wasn't the case, and I proceeded to explain why. He laughs! He said he's a lawyer and he's been to Europe (!?) and I had better watch what I say cuz he could sue me for SLANDER! The drive I bought was more expensive than those offered by other stores, but I went to you because of the free software, now I find I don't even get that.

Finally he admits that the web site advertising the dvd burner I bought had a typo. I wondered what kind of typo would result in a completely different word that just happened to be the title of a much more expensive type of software. No answer, but the next day the web page was changed.

I tried resoning with him, that I'd already bought a lot of things from Meritline in the past, and will most likely do more if he makes good. He tried to give me some cheapo software that usually ends up in the $5 bin at the computer store. Either take the software he offers or send back the DVD burner and software for a refund. (Like i'd trust him to give me a refund at this point.) I let it go, cuz whats the point.

Also, Meritline's DVD-Rs were lousy. Of the one's I burned, none would play for more than a few minutes on my computer or on my DVD player.

I mentioned all this on a yahoo group a while ago and a week later the whole group disappeared!
