Backstory: I owed Circuit City $2020 back in 2002. National Credit Acceptance contacted me telling me I owe $4100 which includes lawyer fees and intrest that built up over the years. They were quick enough to tell me that they would settle for $2100 after some negoiating. I took a look at my credit report and it said that Circuit City wanted $2020. So NCA was off a bit because they told me I owed $2250 some odd dollars. Of coarse they are rude, fast talkers and threaten to "push the button" and sue me if I don't pay right away. They finally agreed to bring the total down to $2020.
So they sent a fax which only gives their numbers of what I owed and what Ill settle for. They will not send a "satifaction of judgement form" cause they said their is no judgement. What finally set off a RED FLAG was that they wont fax any kind of confirmation until after 30 DAYS after its been paid. That worries me.
I know these companies only pay as low as 1.5% on a debt so for mine they would of paid some $25 or probably me guess is around $500. What can I do to make sure these "salesmen" give me the proper documents so when I do pay it, my butt is covered from them ever coming after me again on this case?
Please help me Im short on time.

You CANNOT deal with Circuit City! They SOLD the DEBT!!

Circuit City is no onger in any way involved with this debt. It has obviously been sold at least 3 times over the past 4+years!
FYI..A debt of this age and type goes for about one-fourth of a penny on the dollar! They paid about 5 bucks for that "debt" in a portfolio!
I know this for a fact as I have been involved with a friend in debt portfolios before until I learned what a scummy business it was.
Jesse, since you already agreed to pay..Send them a CASHIERS CHECK stating re; Circuit city debt, PAID IN FULL. Then it is done.
For future reference;
1.NEVER SPEAK to ANY Debt Collector on the phone.
2.Always send debt validation request, certified/RRR.
3.NEVER pay or agree to pay any third party collector as about 98% will never sue you.
4.Always file FTC complaints on first contact, as you know they will violate your rights. File anyway, as you know they have violated someone elses rights who didn't complain!
Good luck!

Paid them off

So I paid these guys and they sent me a letter saying they would agree to send me a letter saying it was paid off in full. I've called many times to see where that letter is. They keep telling me that the guy in charge is away from his desk "I don't beleive that one bit" What do I do to get this off. I have already contacted the three angencies and told them it's "paid" that will take 30 days to investigate. What if the credit agencies deny me. What do I do to get that letter?

If Circuit City says I owe $2200 and they cant except payment, do I pay the Credit Collection Agency? and what technical term do i use to force them into writing it in a contract that will prevent them from selling the account to someone else or ever calling me again. They expect payment on Friday May 16th I believe. Will they follow up with a lawsuit emmediatly or will they give me a little more time. I notice that they want the money NOW, maybe to stop me from investigating it further. Im more scared that I will pay this and it will come back to haunt me. i will be adding a picture of the letter they sent me tonight.

Take it one step further

Since you agree that you owe the debt, and you are willing and able to settle the debt, call Circuit City financial and pay them. DO NOT DEAL WITH A COLLECTION AGENCY PERIOD!!!!!!
It will never get paid off, it will just be sold to another agency after paying them. Plus, you re-start the SOL clock of the debt.
Always work out your unpaid debts with the original creditors, never a collection agency. If circuit city says that they can't accept the money, then tell them too bad, the SOL is almost up, I guess I will keep my money.

Jesse:
First of all, stay off the phone. It's just not easy to prove he said/she said when it comes right down to it.
This company has already violated the FDCPA by stating that you owe them attorney fees. They can not collect attorney fees without a judgement. (And they have specifically stated that there isn't a judgement.)
The statute of limitations on suing for debts in Florida is between 4 and 5 years from the date of last activity depending on the type of debt.
Since you might still be within SOL, I would advise you to seek the help of a consumer law attorney that can be found at the NACA website - you might have to talk to several to get some help, so don't get discouraged. (Normally I would encourage you to send a demand for validation letter directly to National, but because you are right around the end of the lawsuit period a demand letter could POSSIBLY trigger a lawsuit. So consulting an attorney is best prior to the SOL extinguishing.)
FDCPA violations can be used as leverage against the outstanding debt balance and in some cases can make this thing go away.
Don't take what they're serving!! Read up on the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act and know your rights.
